“Happy with our stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2008

We stayed here for one night after gorilla trekking.

We were very pleased with this hotel. The buildings look very nice from the outside.
Our room was very spacious with a fairly comfortable bed (not too hard), desk, TV with many channels (BBC and mostly French channels).
We did not have air conditioning and kind of wish we did as we couldn't leave the windows open being on the first floor. A fan would have been nice, but there wasn't one.
The bathroom was clean and had a good shower with great water pressure and lots of hot water.

There was free internet, but it was pretty slow. (But, hey, free internet in Africa - great!)

We had dinner at the hotel restaurant. The food was just OK but the service was VERY slow.

The staff was friendly and helpful and spoke English.

We were happy here and would recommend it.

Really enjoyed my stay. Rooms were well furnished. Service was great. Appreciated the air conditioning. One of the best gyms I've ever been to in a hotel. Will definitely be staying at Chez Landos agina next time I'm in Rwanda.

This hotel is fantastic. The brochettes in the restaurant are top notch, but the pool is its crowning glory. What a swim!! You MUST stay here. Fantastic.

I loved staying here… it really felt like home by the end of my stay (two weeks). The rooms and bathrooms were always immaculate. As a woman staying alone, I felt safe. The staff were extremely friendly… in Rwandan fashion, some like to hold you hand as they speak with you (they aren’t flirting with you, it’s just what friends do in Rwanda!) The food in the hotel restaurant was decent, but – most importantly for our sensitive Western stomachs – the food was safe. I was with a group of 12 and not a single person got sick.

The service was slow, but you will find that absolutely anywhere you go in Rwanda. Give yourself about two hours for dinner at any restaurant there. The wireless internet was not reliable, but to even get WiFi in a developing country is pretty impressive, so no complaints!

The laundry service was cheap and clothes always came back clean. But they sometimes get the items mixed up, so make sure you take inventory of your clothes before getting them cleaned.

If you stay there, make sure you go to the Italian place across the street. It’s cheap and they have the best pizza you’ve ever tasted!

If you are looking to maintain your Western expectations, don’t go to Africa. Period. But, if you do go, you’ll fall in love with Chez Lando.

My group stayed for 2 days in the new section of the hotel when it first opened. (I haven't been in the older section, so cannot comment about it) The rooms were well appointed, spacious, very clean, and had a refrigerator. The bathroom was also very clean and the plumbing worked well. There is a restaurant on the grounds that is only ok, but there are plenty of good places to eat within walking distance or a short cab ride.

The downsides? There is some traffic noise from the street below, and when the city power went out the generator was also loud. We did have power and water though when much of the city did not. Two members of our party also had a long wait for their room to be ready, but we were told this was because a problem at the airport was preventing previous guests from leaving and they were having to rebook people

Overall it was a very pleasant stay. It isn't as nice as the Novatel or the Serena, but it was safe, comfortable and much cheaper.

Bath with hot water is available, but no shampoo.
Lights are sometimes out of order.
Housekeepers are not affable.
Reception clerks had bad manners.
They should know what customers are and what clerks are.
They don't take dirty dollars, though they give customers dirty ones.
The breakfast is same every day, no variety, no good and milk is sour.
