“An experience like no other”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2010

From the minute I set foot in Shokola, I was impressed by the warm welcome I received from the friendly and enthusiastic waiters who were very knowledgeable about the wide ranging menu options(this is quite uncommon in most kigali restaurants).
I was there for a dinner meeting with a friend, the food was absolutely delicious ( I had the pan fried chicken on ginger butter sauce and beghrir pancakes for dessert), our orders were timely, the ambience was superb.
I also went to shokola for a lunch meeting and the 15 minute business lunch was true to its word, excellent food served in 15 minutes!
Overall, Shokola is a nice resto-cafe, I would definitely go back and highly recommend it to anyone who wants who wants excellent service, value for their money and appreciates eclectic and Mediterranean cuisine .

“Very bad service and mediocre food!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2010

We went to the restaurant on Saturday 17 July 2010 to see a film as part of this year's Rwanda Film Festival. We ordered some food and drinks to have while watching the film. Half way through our meal, a waitress, all of a sudden, dropped our wooden table to a garden area, which meant that our drinks were crashed into the floor. The waitress and her colleague hurriedly cleaned up without offering any apology and did not even bother offering us any more drink! Then the bill came, and the restaurant wanted to charge us for the drinks; we did not even drink half of them! No courtesy whatsoever. Besides, the food was not good at all, and I found the price very expensive, much more than the five star Serena Hotel! So don't go!

“literally the best restaurant in Kigali!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2010

if you're looking for great tasting, affordable food, excellent service and very cozy and warm ambiance, look no further - Shokola is the place. I had dinner and lunch there 4 out of the 7 days i was in Kigali. The food is rich and they have many excellent vegetarian and health options, the Couscous salad is amazing. Also, a range of sandwiches, try their Koukou Baguette, absolutely scrumptious! The have the most variety of fruit juices in the city, all kinds of juices and smoothies, made on the spot, you can hear the blenders mixing up all the goodness! Also, they have FREE and super fast wi-fi - a good place if you want to work somewhere outside the office, ít's nice and quiet. They have a sunday brunch that is delicious - with many pastry choices, omelettes etc - brunch starts at 10am and there's also a Mexican Fiesta on Sunday with delicious burritos and quesadillas - all freshly made, you can tell from the taste!
would recommend Shokola to everyone travelling to Shokola, it's got good food, excellent staff and lovely decor!

“the greatest combination of tasty and simple african/middle eastern dishes”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 25, 2009

Shokola, has got the greatest combination of tasty and simple african/middle eastern dishes - i had the humus with pitta bread, and chicken tree-tomato/prune Tagine served with couscous in a wooden tagine pot, my friend had the mango fish tilapia with plantain - very delicious indeed, we both had short macchiatos and double apple floured hookah for desert in these little bedouin gazeboes, the whole evening was absolutely amazing!

would definitely recommend Shokola to anyone.
