“Superb, attentive service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 6, 2013

I arrived at Golf Hills from Kigali Airport at about 2.30 am to find the manager, Antoinette, ready to check me in at the hotel reception. I asked her why she was up at such a crazy hour, and she said "I like to be here when my guests arrive." This epitomizes my stay; nothing was too much trouble for Antoinette or her staff. This result: a superbly managed, spotlessly clean, and very comfortable hotel.

Although expensive by, say, Southeast Asian standards, Golf Hills is a bargain in Rwanda, a fraction of the cost of staying at one of Kigali's better known upmarket hotels. You won't find a sewing kit or hair conditioner in your bathroom, but you will find a comfortable room in a quiet location, and just about the best service anywhere.

Disadvantages: A few kilometers from the city center, and not much within walking distance. But it's easy to get a taxi (car or motorcyle) to take you where you want to go.

Note: Rooms here don't have air conditioning, but that is simply because there is no need for it. Although close to the equator, Kigali is about 1, 600 meters above sea level, so doesn't get particularly hot, and it always cools down at night.

I give Golf Hills an enthusiastic 5.

The rooms are clean, spacious and comfortable. The staff really goes out out of their way to make you feel at home and the breakfast is great! I think it is the best deal in Kigali and I would highly recommended it!

I was travelling with my girlfriend during one month through Rwanda and during this time I stayed 4 different times here. I can only recommend this hotel to everyone who is in Kigali and wants to stay in a lovely and quiet place with good food (not big menu but enough) and great breakfast! But if the hotel is nice the service is even much better, they are always trying to make the best for you and you will feel really comfortable during your stay. For us, to be in Kigali means to be in Golf Hills Residence!!!

I spent four nights in this fine home away from home. The staff is fantastic. The food is great. The rooms are super. They do everything to try to please their guests. The hotel sits in a very nice part of Kigali. If you want to go anywhere, they always arrange a taxi for you. They even got me a driver to take me to the DRC. I have no agenda here. I just call them as I see them. For $80 a night, by far the best deal I found in Africa. Thanks again to all the staff for all their help. They really do care.

Room Tip: Room #19 was my room and it was wonderful

Reasonably clean, reasonably comfortable. Huge rooms, huge bathrooms. Your basic, nice play to stay. It's got a nice view, and the food is pretty good. No complaints, really. The hotel manager is a lovely lady. Breakfast is pretty good too. Nothing fancy, but certainly really nice.

We stayed here for one night enroute to Uganda. The lady at reception was great and let us have breakfast (free) while we waited for our room to be made up. Nothing fancy but large and clean. Would recommend

I stayed here in a single room for 2 weeks on business (with 2 more weeks to go), It is spotlessly clean throughout. Food and drink is reasonably priced and all of the staff are very friendly and attentive. The menu is restricted - for a long stay - but everything is cooked fresh when you order it. Breakfast is plentiful and good quality. Don't come here if you want a swimming pool and lots of activities, though there is a nightclub about 200 metres away. Free wifi and TV and fridge in room, though the prices are so reasonable that it really isn't worth bringing your own. Taxi to Kigali City Centre is 5,000 Francs (£5) about 15 minutes, and a visit to the Genocide Memorial museum (taxi 4,000 Francs) is a must. A safe and very peaceful haven, close to the City (a town really) ideal for a stop off point en route to visit the gorillas or other parts of Africa. 1 trip to or from airport included in deal. Laundry charges very reasonable. Personal attention from Antoinette, the manager who sorted all teething issues virtually immediately.

Room Tip: I have seen 3 of the rooms and would be happy with any of them. Big double beds, ensuite with baths...
