My colleague and I went to Gatheman's on a whim. Its within walking distance of Kalahari Sands and well worth the very short walk to get there.
We were pleasantly suprised by the beautiful al fresco dining experience. You can sit on a patio upstairs under the stars - its beautiful! The menu offers lots of local options, German food, steaks, and seafood plus the wine list seemed extensive. I had the butternut soup, which came in a huge portion and was really yummy. For an entree I had the farmer's salad which was a small fillet steak sliced over a bed of salad greens, veggies, and fruit - delicious! For dessert, I had creme brulee, which had a great flavor even if the crust was a bit thick. My colleague had grilled fish served over champagne risotto - it looked fantastic!
The service is great, the food is even better, and the ability to dine outside under the stars is a major plus. Definitely worth a try! As other reviewers mentioned, it is a bit pricier than other restaurants in Windhoek, but at the same time, its a lot nicer than most of the other restaurants and offers fantastic steaks and seafood.
