Most travel agents in Maputo now offer Mafalala tours but the actual guiding is done by one great local organisation called Iverca. They took us down these back alleys of the old "African" Maputo (the closest area to the city where the Portuguese allowed Africans to live during colonial times.) It's amazing that 40 years later much of the area consists of houses made from corrugated iron (The Portuguese did not let them building with bricks and cement). This is not a 'luxury' tour but a great way to see the more real-life side of Maputo
