“Old-fashioned, clean and a bit expensive hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2013

A bit old-fashoioned hotel located in the city center. Clean and care. Rooms are austere but acceptable, without mini-bar mostly and small office with a kettle.

Normal room sixe with comfortable beds. Free WiFi in the whole hotel with good quality.

The restaurant is good but a bit expensive (western prices) Probably the best is the breakfast with a complete buffet and hot meals served at the moment (specially eggs)

Cabstand at the main door and a mini shopping center where you can get some souvenirs or even some stuff if you forgot it at home or office.

Room Tip: Views to the carthedral and the sea are the best. From 10th floor much better. Take a picture of the...

This hotel was not the easiest to reserve a room as emails do not seem to get answered. Eventually we made a reservation through a third party website at a more preferable rate than advertised on the official website. Although there isn't much in Maputo that offers the same value as neighbouring South Africa.

Check in was quick and easy and we had a room with a view over the cathedral, with a few other attractions in easy walking distance. There was also a small shopping centre on the ground floor.

Then room was clean and of decent size. The breakfast was also good with a buffet with hot and cold options.

I spent a week here in April and based on the reviews I expected thugs to be lurking in the hallways. It wasn't great, but it was better than I expected considering my low expectations. Room was fine. Location wasn't great for me but I had a nice view from the room.

Only real downside are the elevators. There are only two and the wait can be very long. But this is not an easy thing to fix.

Not great customer service either. Not a lot of smiles. Difficult to get coffee at breakfast without sending up flares.

Room Tip: Pick a room on a low floor so you can take the stairs if the line for the elevator is long.

This hotel was definitely not a Western 4 star hotel, but I think the people writing some of these reviews are exaggerating a bit about how bad it is. This is definitely a hotel I would consider paying about $60 a night for in America, but at the same time there was nothing gross or egregiously wrong with it. Rooms had a nice bathtub, a nice view of the city, and a good breakfast was offered. I would advise making sure the AC works, because our initial room had a broken AC and we had to switch.

Weird crew at this hotel, mostly European businesspeople, so there was a lot of free space near the pool.

At the same time, we did visit one beautiful guesthouse that a friend of ours was staying in that was around the same price. So--if you have a choice--stay somewhere else. But if you don't, the Pestana isn't that bad.

Large hotel, very well located just across the street from one of the main squares in Maputo. However it clearly needs a thorough renovation, since the rooms look pretty basic and the materials quite worn.

I can't quite believe the photos of this hotel...they aren't a real reflection of the place. The rooms are clean but stark, things kind of work...like the TV, but not the remote, or the kettle but you have to put it on the floor to plug it in. The food is way over priced and not very good.
