“Centrally located, yet peaceful and quiet”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2012

I reached the hotel late evening and was greeted by excellent staff. However, there was some mix-up & confusion about me hotel booking (I had booked online) and there was quite a delay before I got checked in.
The corridors were a bit eerie & poorly lit, but the room was lovely. I had a suite for the cost of a double room which was excellent. Very big & spacious. The view outside was magnificent. Just outside my room was a beautiful cathedral and a little away was a lovely govt. building.
I was a bit weary to venture outside the hotel after sunset, because the roads looked deserted & dimly lit. During the day, I found that the hotel was pretty much within walking distance from town.
The breakfast was excellent with a wide range of foods and good to keep you going for a good part of the day. I felt the dinner buffet was overpriced, but at least it was tasty.
The staff was bright & very helpful. I certainly recommend this hotel to travellers to Maputo.

Room Tip: Chooe a room facing the cathedral (Cathedral of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception).

I have been visiting Maputo for about 7 years now for business and have stayed in quite a few hotels as well as bed & breakfast places. Make no mistake, Mozambique accomodation is overpriced compared to South Africa, but I was pleasently surprised with the value received from this hotel, compared to the other places I have stayed at.
The staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms are spacious and clean.
Breakfast was better than what some of the five star hotels in the area offer.
Parking is a problem, but where isn't?
Definately will be staying here from now on.

This venue is well positioned, basically central maputo, this serves any person travelling on Business, however if you are travelling for pleasure, then I would suggest you go for a hotel on the Beach. The staff knew basic english, and communication was difficult, however they made up for this with enthusiasm. I was helped with every step, we were even escorted to the shopping centre to purchase sim cards. There is a small shopping complex on site. The breakfast was sub standard and the range was small. This can be vamped up, the view of Maputo is beautiful, pictures to follow soon. The elevator and overall decor leaves a bit to be desired, the room itself was spacious and neat. A good trip. An average hotel.

Room Tip: Go for a higher floor, facing the Church. The view is beautiful.

This was great.. Considering it is an old building and an old location, the new rooms overlooking the cathedral are lovely. Yes, if you are expecting five star comfort...give it a miss, it is an old hotel (and not in the 'nice' historic sense) like...oopps 70's again..so no modern fittings etc. however, it was clean and the view over the city was glorious!

Room fair and clean, bathroom small and clean, restaurant poor, service typical for Mozambique (slow and reluctant), conference facilities adequate in an African context, distinctly below what you might expect if coming from US

Room Tip: Busy roads around, so pick an upper floor if you can - 8+

I stayed at the Pestana Rovuma for 5 nights to attend a conference. The staff was not too attentive upon arrival and made me pay for the whole stay at once. Later colleagues that had the same governmental official passport I have said they were not required to do so. Anyway, it is a strange practice to charge you in advance except if you have an official passport...
The room felt old. Furniture needs to be renovated, the TV was an old CRT model. The room was clean though. There is a nice bar for people who like to watch soccer games. The restaurant is OK, breakfast also. Prices in the high side, but that is the case all over Maputo.
The staff tries to be helpful. I needed a sewing kit that the hotel did not have. Next day they produced one. Wifi is free but slow.
My room had a double door connecting to the neighbor. Not only I could hear their conversations but they complained that I was watching TV too loud one night, which was an overstatement.

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms with a door connecting you to your neighbor. Very poor acoustic insulation.

I thought long and hard about whether I was being too harsh with this review and poor score, but I really don't think I am! The fact remains that at a rack rate of $180 it is overpriced. Like many hotels in Africa it is long overdue a refurbishment. My room was ok - the television only worked intermittently, and the shower leaked all over the floor. The lighting was also appalling - not possible to work at night in a hotel that brands itself as a conference centre for business people. The only plus side was the bed, which clearly was quite new and was very comfortable. There are 2 lifts and during my 4 day stay one worked a best, and on one day neither were working. My room was on the 8th floor, but I believe the hotel goes up to the 12th floor or higher. The restaurant was poor - out of 14 menu items the fish ones never seemed to be available (strange in a coastal city!), and was what provided was very overpriced for the quality. The breads and pastries at breakfast were very stale every day. Clearly Maputo has a gap in the market for mid-range decent hotels - in future I'll stay at a guesthouse, or fork out more for the Tsogo Sun, Cardoso or Polana, as my time in the Pestana Rovuma was very depressing!
