“Budget hotel is clean and modern, but a tad disorganised”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2012

Hotel Turismo is located in the Maputo's downtown, this is the historical area however not the area with the best restaurants and bars.
At a little over $100 a room a night it's quite cheap for Maputo's standards. It has twin, double, or single rooms but there is no way to add a third bed so if you are three people you will end up paying for two rooms, a single is about the same cost as a double.
If you are driving this is not a good option as there is no parking. Parking in Maputo's streets often means losing mirrors, lights, or worse...

Not as bad as we expected from reading other reviews but nothing special. Be clear that 1) parking is an issue - there is no secure parking and you will need to continuously pay the security guards to watch your car 2) there is wifi - it costs, rarely is operational and when it is you have to sit in the corridor near the lift - a potential security risk 3) the lifts do work but are very slow and only carry 4 people and they usually only have 1 operating. You will be able to get your luggage to your room but the rest of the time wil probably have to use the stairs 4) food is an issue- breakfast is nothing special but quite adequate, there are very few eating options nearby and the hotel restaurant has an extensive menu but very little of it available 5)serviice is slow

I agree that this hotel is not a luxury hotel and may be good for short stays but I would not recommend it to anyone. We were harrassed by security staff from the day we checked in demanding to "watch" our cars for a fee since the hotel has no parking. Our friends' car had its mirrors "stolen" right in front of the guards because he refused to pay them the amount they were demanding. When we discovedred this the next morning they offered to take us to where we could buy these and when we got there an exorbitant amount of money was demanded for the mirrors (same mirors)! We negotiated down to 250USD as we had no choice but to buy the mirrors. The guard who escorted us to the marketplace to buy them also demanded a fee for his service and threatened us. We reported the incident at the front desk and were met with indifference. Lifts do not function properly and rooms leave a lot to be desired. Had to check out a day earlier than planned and no, there is no refund policy!

Room Tip: Ask for a room that has no carpets, they smell better.

Ibis Turismo Hotel is not a luxury hotel as expected by many people. The hotel has a razonable price and available staff. Good for short trips. I do recommend if you are not a demanding person.

Room Tip: Request a room without carpet and in a lower floor

Very modest, considering the prices, with lots of problems with the elevators…
But convent location, close to banks and coffee shops

Room Tip: The rooms facing the main avenue are too noisy, specially thursday and friday nights due to discos...

The rooms are very old and degraded, and need a major renovation. The service needs to be much improved. It's like a residential not a hotel.

Hotel de Turismo was not of my best experiences, but I would say the overall price/quality ratio is good given the location and usual price range at Maputo. The overall hotel was formerly an Ibis. The best description if you know the Ibis is that service and installations are slightly degraded compared to the standard of this chain, but acceptable given the location and price. The rooms are the standard Ibis rooms, with a reasonable size, the rooms were clean and the bathroom was OK. The breakfast was poor, but in my opinion it fits the minimum acceptable level.

The Hotel has no parking and this can be a limitation. You may park in the street and expect that since you are in central downtown nothing will happens. I was able to get one of the 3 or 4 parking places just in front of the hotel and I asked the front guard to have a look, in exchange for a small tip. No complains.

What I really did not like -- and this is not usual at Maputo hotels and restaurants or services --- it was an attempt at the front desk to fool the tourist. I had a confirmed reservation for a standard room, but upon my arrival I was told that there was only executive rooms available and that I had to pay 20 USD more. I just replied that the hotel could give whatever room that fitted the reservation, but that I would not pay 1 cent more relative to the reservation, or I would have to contact the national tourism office. This matter was settled at once and a standard room was immediately available as magic...
