“Interesting unique collections”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2013

This museum, although poorly maintained, presents interesting collections such as the elephant fetuses and the prehistorical coelacanth fish. It offers very fair fees to enter and is definitely worth the visit.

“Nice from the outside!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2013

The building that hosts the museum is beautiful! One of the nicest in Maputo. Aside from the display of elephant foeti, which is quirky at best and creepy at worst, the stuffed animals inside are in por condition and not worth the time.

“Spooky”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

I just adore this museum. There are an amazing variety of very old, decaying, dusty, stuffed animals. That are all eating each other. Seriously - everything is in the process of eating or killing something else. There's even a bird that is carrying off a small deer, and another that somehow managed to grab an octopus on display. But the lion eating the buffalo that has stepped on the lion and left its guts spilling out is the best. Once upon a time there used to be a soundtrack of roars and moans, that - combined with musty rotting guts spilling out and dim atmosphere - totally just made this the best place for a halloween party ever. Now the soundtrack is gone, alas. There's still an array of elephant fetuses that they are quite proud of (rightly so), and some interesting and somewhat bizarre educational displays of genetics and evolution. All in all, a very fun museum.

“Beautiful Building”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

There is no upkeep of this beautiful landmark. It is very dusty inside. It is also relatively cheap to see - about $4.

“Obviously zero investement in the last 50 years”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2012

This museum was probably quite good when it was decked out 50 years ago but for today´s international standards it really is quite poor with very little of note inside. There is an extensive collection of taxidermied fish, insects and more. The taxidermied animals in the main entrance are a little more interesting but really not worth making a trip for. Only go if you really are SEARCHING for something to do in Maputo - or are staying across the road in Cardoso hotel
