“Just a crater !!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2013

Expected to see inside a crater but it looks more like a valley with a lot of vegetation around with a green algae covered pond in the centre. The neighbourhood is awesome though ...many beautiful houses around the area .

“large tree covered crater”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2013

Large tree covered volcanic crater worth a detour for a short stop. You wouldn't go there specifically to see this attraction - stop as part of a tour.

“Interesting geology”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2013

This was interesting and especially so if you have an interest in geology- lovely view and a look down into the green water in the crater lake. Various people either described the volcano as extinct or dormant and 'but could become active at any time within the next thousand years.' If the latter, people in the expensive houses nearby might have cause to panic! The very active volcano Piton de la Fournaise in Reunion is only 160 miles away. Actually, Mauritius itself is a surviving remnant of an old collapsed volcano caldera and Trou aux Cerfs is a relatively small remnant of the last eruption understood to be 600,000 or 700,000 years ago! However, the last volcanic eruption can be dated to about 20,000 years ago by the L’escalier crater at Nouvelle Decouverte last erupted 20,000 years ago....

“Different but not amazing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2013

The trou aux Cerfs crater was in a very affluent area of Mauritius, it had a great view over the island and into the crater itself. There is several view points around the edge. You can venture down into the crater but there is no set path and it is pretty steep.

“Nature”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2013

Trou aux Cerfs is a crater offering nice views. Best to go there either at dawn or sunset. It's perfect for a walk or a run. It's also a nice, cool and peaceful place to sit down for a good read. It's also a very good place to meditate, ,do yoga or just relax.
