“Very good food but dim ambience”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

On our first day in Mauritius, we were scouting for a good restaurant along Royal Road in Grand Baie at night. We had read that there were many dining options and were actually seaching for Happy Raja (which was highly rated on Trip Advisor) The road was quite deserted (around 7.30 pm) and we could not figure out the way. We passed by La Pagode (it was empty and looked quite shady). However we were tired, and we were a family of 4 and so we decided to eat here. We selected a table near the entrance and as I was about to sit, my son noticed a lizard on the back of my chair. The restaurant was dimly lit (red light!!) However we shifted to the next table. Service was quick. The food was surprisingly very good. Portions were reasonable and we were happy we ate here. By the time we finished our meal, the restaurant was quite full. Maybe people have late dinner in Mauritius or it was just a coincidence!!

“Not the best Chinese in Grand Baie”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2013 via mobile

It was an average and inexpensive meal, not as authentic as its competitor just a stone's throw away. Service was friendly and we did not wait long before food arrived at the table.

“Good Chinese Food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2013

After walking along the front at Grand Baie, we decided on this restaurant because it was the most busy. Don't be guided by previous reviews, this restaurant is actually very good. it's not Mauritian but Chinese food that is served. The menu is quite large, so we opted for a set menu for 2. The price Rps 650 plus tax. I have to say that, by far this is the best meal we have eaten on our trip to Mauritius, both in terms of value and price ( to get my wife to eat Chinese is usually a mission). It was served quite quickly and the standard of the food was good, the portions were good and in fact we even took some away.
The service is good although, not particularly friendly. Our waitress was efficient and polite.
The location is right on the bay and i would recommend a seat near the front as it is a little hot inside.
If you want Chinese food this is the place for you in Grand Baie, if you want other styles of food, go somewhere else!!

“Major disappointment”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2012

When I was a young growing up in mauritius, La Pagode was one of the places to go for crab soup and fried noodles. Now, about twenty years later... The restaurant still looks more or less the same. However, now under new management with new chef, it is a total disaster! More tailoured for tourists, this place is no longer a favourite, in fact, avoid if you can. You are better off eating on the road where the real Mauritian food is to be found
