We just spent 2 nights in Maseru while I was working at a local college, booked by a company I do some work for. At breakfast I overheard another guest saying there was a need for a medium priced hotel in Maseru and when I received the bill, I understood why.
The hotel is totally overpriced for what you get - accommodation is fairly comfortable and staff are friendly, but the hotel is in need of an overhaul if it is to charge the rates they charge.
The hotel seems like it is hanging on to former glory. The carpets in the passages have watermarks all along the edges, the carpet at the main door is frayed, an aircon barely moved air around the room, the plug in the basin needs rechroming, as the base metal is showing through, windows were murky......
Dining was another problem - items on the bar menu are unavailable, the beer and wine were warm, the buffet was less than exciting with overdone beef and lumpy custard, the staff did not clear plates until asked and the breakfast selection was not replenished swiftly - only a few pieces of grapefruit were left at the fruit station for quite some time.
For R1800 for a night, this was just not good enough. A special advertising a room and 2 breakfasts for R900 obviously wasnt offered to the company that booked my accommodation.
There's a gap in the market for another hotel - who is going to take it up?
