The Mahogany Lodge, owned by a local Ghanian couple, is not hip, not pretentious, and does not pretend to be anything more than what it is. But what it is, is exactly what you need in Accra:
A quiet refuge in the tranquil Cantonments area with good qualty at a reasonable (for Africa) price. The smiles from Faustina at the front desk propagate outwards to the porter, to the maid, and so on. The rooms are not particularly stylish, but are very clean, the bathrooms are sparkling , the linen is comfortable, and the aircon discreet. The small pool is ideal for a quick cooling off. Unlike La Villa (where I stayed previously) where sunglass clad hipsters lounge poolside while trance music plays too loudly, and where the veneer is wearing off the too chic furnishings, the Mahogany lodge is a friendly, quiet, honest African hotel in Accra ... and about USD 35 cheaper per night than La Villa ... and with a free airport shuttle to boot. This is a hotel that I will come back to.
