“A nice restaurant to dine outside”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2012

When you like simpel seafood and a nice restaurant, outside, with a great sea breeze, instead of a freezing aircon, with on top a nice view on the sea, this is recommendable in Accra, where there are not many nice places where one can enjoy a meal outside ( beside the roadside of Osu, but that remains a ROAD side...).
The restaurant is called the Ghanaian Village and is past the pool, when one enters the Hotel, towards the beach. The hotel, which I will not rate, as I have not stayed teher and will not, has too much concrete and does not look nice in the daytime because of that, so evening is recommendable. The Menu is extreme simple ; grilled seafood, catch of the day, squid, prawns ( some salads but they were not available, as most of the wines on the menu were also not available, but one is used to that in Accra, though the local beer Star & Club is nice and cold). Service was very slow, but that too, what is new, but very friendly and trying very hard to please in a pleasant way. Food was good, ( prawns were cold, but still good) and sitting overlooking the beach and the sea is a very nice experience.

A great and lovely place to be in Accra. Our Organization, the African Regional Intellectual Property Organization (ARIPO) held its biannual Council of MInisters and annual Administrative Council Sessions at the Hotel in December, 2011. Its was lovely and facilities placed at our disposal was excellent. The food was good as well as the hospitality. THe General Manage was extremely helpful and went out of her way to create the conducive atmosphere for successful meetings. Indeed, since then, I have made La Palm Royal Beach Hotel my resort and I encourage all to there.
Long live, La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra

A great choice for conference, great location with awesome sea view. My room had a sea view with spectacular sunrises coupled with the soothing sounds of the waves from the Atlantic ocean. Arrangements for meetings were excellent. The staff were helpful. The General Manager was available at all material times, very efficient, gracious and accommodating.

I was here for business and could not have the opportunity to enjoy the serene ambience of the hotel. Would certainly come back for a vacation and would want more soft pillows on the bed!. The food at the African Village Restaurant was mouth watering.

Room Tip: Rooms with sea view are awesome.

Nice pool, but thought the hotel was way overpriced...not a good value for the money. The beach outside the hotel is not that great as well. The minute you walk outside your hounded by hawkers and they try to charge you $5 to walk on the beach (which is a mess.) Needs to be brought out of the 80s. If you have another option...take it.

Dear Jetsetafr,

Thank you for your review and comments about your recent stay at La Palm Royal Beach Hotel.

We have embarked on a refurbishment project of our guestrooms with expected completion date in the last quarter of 2012. We will be glad to welcome you back to our hotel to experience our newly refurbished rooms.

Regarding the hawkers at the public beach outside our hotel, this has been addressed with support of Ghana Police and signage has been placed around the area warning our valued guests to be careful when walking on the public beach.

Once again thank you for your review of our hotel and we hope that you will come back soon to experience our new accommodations and will once again take the time to write a review.

Thank you,

Grace Quainoo.

La Palm has circular chalets around the grounds, each chalet contains about 7 or 8 rooms. Those chalets nearest the shore have spectacular sunrises and sunsets over the Gulf of Guinea. There are also rooms within blocks around the main hotel building.
I was here on business and therefore had a preferential corporate rate which still worked out at US $180 a night bed and breakfast, which I still consider to be a little expensive for what you get. The rooms are a little tired, although pleasant enough with all the amenities you would expect, TV/Satellite, safe, fridge, iron and board, en suite etc.
Check-in and check-out were NOT smooth. If it is not the staff then the computer system they are using is letting them down. Check-out was even slower ... Executed at about 1100 at night in order to avoid hassle at 0430 AM, the bill took nearly 1 hour to prepare .... Allegedly because they couldn't print it. However, on initial inspection of their first attempt they had not charged anything that I had signed for during the five day stay.
Eat at the Ghanain Village restaurant on the shore. There is a bar where Emanuel and Sampson will make you feel like long lost brothers. The food is good, wholesome and relatively fast and Anthony and Evelyn are some of the most efficient and politest Ghanaians I have met. Plus, go early watch the sun go down and enjoy the breeze (which keeps the mozzies away) and live bands at the weekends. The main restaurant is adequate for breakfast, which is comprehensive buffet style. It however lacks atmosphere for dinner, although the selection of wine is reasonable for Ghana.
The one thing that let's this hotel down is the service after about 1000 PM. Obviously, long days take their toll and the service levels drop off considerably - I did tell Isaac and the rest of the team that I would mention this, but he appeared not too bothered - which sums it up!
Pool good, pool bar good, Ghanaian Village excellent! Rooms OK, Service mostly OK. There are better hotels in the centre but they are considerably dearer and even after what I've said I would stay here again ... If only to see if there are improvements!
Finally, as a bored business traveller I did avail myself of the in-house casino and yes it's enjoyable and the drinks are free etc and if your like me you can throw away your $100 really, really quickly ... Ho Hum!

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the sea, at no extra cost!

The hotel rooms are located in a big campus and the central functions, pool, restaurants and meeting facilities are in the middle. For conference participants, it is not practical to move around under the hot sun ! I am reluctant to come back for work but willing to return for vacation. It will be nice to swim in the pool and watch sunset from the beach in front of this hotel. Sea breeze and sounds make you relax.

Room Tip: Choose a room close to central function.

Dear Ms. Gehararig,
We appreciate your review of our hotel from your recent stay. We are glad that you will return to our hotel for your vacation accommodation needs. Your comments on the size of our property and its’ various functional outlets, i.e. pool, restaurants and conference rooms are appreciated.

A system has been put in place to notify our guests about the limousine style golf carts that usually transport our guest to and from their destinations within the hotel, preventing them from moving under the sun.

Thank you for your comments and taking the time to post your review of La Palm Royal Beach Hotel.

For the US Dollar price I think this hotel needs a good facelift and an overall upgrade. Don't be fooled by the web pictures.

Did have some excellent food tho'.
