“Decent place if money is not the object”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2014 via mobile

I have stayed here twice in the last 1 year and had a pleasant stay each time.

The standard rooms aren't big compared to other hotels in a similar price range. It however makes it up with the cleanliness and smart management. The place could really use a spa since there aren't many in the area.

The quality of the gym equipment might need improvement. The room service is prompt and the food menu is impressive.

Overall a little expensive but a decent place to stay if you are up for a short stint

There are so many things wrong with this hotel, I don’t even know where to start. But the first and foremost is the miserable staff. No smiles all across from the entry to front desk and definitely the restaurant.

The only friendly face I see is my housekeeper. The food is slow, and horrid. I ate there quite a few times, just because I did not have the time to go eat elsewhere. There was a day I went without lunch, ate a candy bar just so that I would avoid the restaurant. The pool water is cloudy, the bathroom towels are old and grey, lumpy pillows and list list goes on.

I was hassled by hustlers in the lobby, at the pool side multiple times (4 to be exact) and 2 prostitutes, offering me very explicit sexual acts.

With a check-out bill of USD1,998.01, it was not worth anything close to that, I have severely over paid.

I think the management has given up, no one at that hotel cares if you existed.

Room Tip: Avoid at all cost.

First trip to Accra. Have used Novotel in other places and the room standard and fittings were the same as at their other properties - no frills but it provides a comfortable level of accommodation for a short stay. Free WiFi although the connection from a mobile was a little intermittent better from a PC. Gym and pool both good.

I have been returning on a regular basis to the Accra Novotel for many years. Recently, I have only been going there when I really have had no other choice since there are better hotels and deals elsewhere in town. My recent experience serves only to reinforce my overall impression that it is still slipping downwards compared to the competition. Admittedly, the renovated rooms on the executive floor (6th) are pleasant and the fittings are OK for a hotel of this category. However, the aircon was blocked at 24.5°C which, in itself, is fair enough in this age of energy conservation. On the other hand, the bedding is woefully unadapted to this temperature - the same synthetic quilts and pillows to be found in Novotels in far cooler climates. The result was nights spent tossing off the covers only to pull them back again. When consulted, the management said there was no way of reducing the temperature and that there were no cotton blankets. Other complaints - very average breakfasts with cold food and powdered (?) scrambled eggs; meeting areas are cramped and the bar fills up very quickly; scruffy public areas and lifts; one out of 2 computers in the reception not working and the keyboards covered in grime. This is a hotel which is not adapting to the local environment. Other than its advantage of being centrally positioned, there are far better value hotels in Accra.

I stayed at the Novotel for 2 nights. The staff were extremely friendly, really accommodating and helpful. The breakfast was lovely and there was a really good variety of food to choose from. They have a nice pool area, a small shop and ATM machine on the ground floor. I must compliment the staff who were really nice and were able to recommend places to go and things to do ( especially Kwadwo Boadu ) As a lone female traveller, I felt really safe here. My room was nice- I really liked the shower and the the views from my room were nice ( I was able to peer over and see the guests in the neighbouring Movenpick). I am looking forward to coming here again for a longer stay.

The rooms are very nice I thought - the shower area was clean and had great fittings - same for the rest of the room. There is a nice bar area and a decent sized pool. The food is good and you can get wifi reasonably easliy and it doesn't cost extra.

Overall,its a hotel I enjoyed staying in.

Room Tip: A room looking out onto the pool is nice
