“Good City Hotel where the locals go!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2012

I am a Study Abroad Advisor for Ghana and have stayed here as part of my trip to visit our current student group studying at the University of Ghana. This is a very basic city hotel used predominently by local business folks for small conferences and meetings. It's not a 4 or 5 star Western Hotel (you can get that at the Moevenpick Hotel in Accra!) and you should not expect this when coming here. It's a simply hotel, simple food, my room was however impeccably clean. It occasionally smells like sewage in your bathroom but you have to understand the sewage and water situation in Ghana to understand that this is not out of the ordinary. The toilet flushes but you can only flush once at a time because it takes a while for the water to re-load. So you have been warned! I closed my bathroom door and it was fine. Air conditioning works fine, bed was very comfortable. Reception staff is very slow for Western standards - Keep Cool is the motto. Practice patience. Food can take up to an 1 hour to be served - and - in most local non-western restaurants that is the standard (what you learn: always order as soon as you arrive and it's no problem)! The food is completely fine - nothing to rave about. There's a nice little outdoor bar where you can drink ice cold Ghanaian Beer. In the back there's a pool and another little bar. If you NEED your coffee - you really must bring your own portable stack. This can't be overstated - coffee is horrible (why? Because Ghanaians don't drink coffee - they drink hot cocoa)! Close to University Grounds. If you can handle basic accommodations (and most people say they do but they really don't), then this hotel will be just fine. Ok standard for West-African City and for this price. You're in Ghana - roll with the punches and enjoy the little lovely surprises in-between. They do free airport pick-ups!

Stayed for two nights. Convenient for airport. Good and efficient welcome but service for dinner was very slow which rather took the edge off the occasion. Large room and well equipped on 3rd floor with tempting view over the pool.

The beds were average but for 5 days the rooms were never cleaned. we stayed there as part of an international conference. The breakfast was a good buffet breakfast but the reception was , lets put it this way, seedy. There was no lift and we were on the first floor, so there could have been a lift tucked away domewhere but it was proably hiding , if present at all. There was a pool which we never used and the bathroom smelled of raw sewage. It is way down there with the worst of them.

Room Tip: There must be other hotels in the region

Had to stay here due to a flight cancellation and that would be the ONLY reason anyone would HAVE or want to stay here. Rude front desk people, tried to put me in a trashy room, which most of them are unless you get the new side. Food was very bad as well. ONLY plus MIGHT be that the wifi worked most of the time. Stay away! Are a lot nicer places near the airport at same price or cheaper!

Room Tip: IF you have to stay here MAKE SURE you get the new side!

It was nice to stay in a non chain African hotel . I had a room on the fourth floor that was large and spacious and had a balcony . No elevator but good exercise. We had a very nice conference room for the event and the AC worked --this is important . Overall clean and functional . The food at the restaurant was ridiculously slow and pretty much the same for breakfast lunch and dinner--and mediocre by Ghanaian standards. 6 days of that and it is tough. By Western standards I would give this hotel a 2, but I think if price is an issue --and you want to feel like you are in Africa , not at another Holiday Inn , this was ok . No rave --but ok .

Room Tip: an upper floor in the annex with a balcony

I checked into this hotel and it started off wrong.

Money wanted for every little thing, the night porter (Richard?) tried to rip me off. I ignored it & paid what he was asking to go out & buy something for me (which I would normally pay the actual price & then give extra to the guy doing it).

The staff apart from one or two - Alex at the bar in particular was an honest member of staff as was Laurence a porter. The rest I have no wish to meet again. Even at breakfast the guy on duty was asleep at his podium whilst cartoons were playing on TV, a bit of a joke for a business hotel!

The first room was dirty with bugs that attacked me during the night; the second room had rugs at the foot of the beds that had great stains in them. It wasn't going to get any better. The first room's bathroom was filthy with hairs in the bath & bugs flying around. I had very little hot water, I discovered another guest who didn't have any water at all!!!

I checked out the following morning having had a 48hrs of hell & prices that were way above the norms in Ghana for this class of hotel. I'm not sure what 'star' rating it had, but I wouldn't put it above a 1* star hotel. The beds were like boards, never known anything so hard!

Even the wi-fi didn't work unless you were in a room overlooking the mosquito infested pool area; where the owner hung out with his crew .............

Never again!!!!!!!!

I lodged 4 five days at ANGE HILL with my hubby & son on a family vacation and i loved every bit of it.
We took an executive suite and it was a beaut. There's a cable Tv, a hair dryer in the bathroom, a split unit chiller, cold & warm water from the taps i mean the room was all nice & neat.
The workers are nice too very hospitable.
i have a little hitch though - the food, you wait for hours on end to eat your request except 4 this every other thing is spic and span.
Did i mention the pool side and the tour guide if you needed to see Ghana? ooooh you just have to check it out.
