“needs refurbishing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2013

I had a week-long stay for work at the Meridien Re-Ndama in Libreville a couple of months ago and whilst the welcoming was great and staff were doing all they could to assist, I have to say the hotel is in great need of refurbishment. I guess you come expecting more of a Meridien hotel (and generally speaking more for the price they charge too), but you don't get it: my phone in the room didn't work and never got fixed although I did mention it to reception, the chair in my room was broken and got fixed awkwardly rather than changed (basically I stayed with a broken chair a whole week), the air conditioning was noisy and sometimes leaked, the internet connection was very unreliable, the bathroom very dated and the electricity got cut off several times a day (although I believe that's nothing to do with the Meridien but a city-wide problem). On the plus side though, I have to say the food was good at the hotel's restaurant and the room clean. All in all I cannot say I had a bad stay because people were lovely, but I wouldn't be able to recommend the Meridien as a great destination, unless you know full well what you are getting into and accept the flaws.

This 40 year old hotel should no longer be carrying the Meridien name. But it still tries hard.

Location is not good. The hotel is at the opposite end of the corniche from the airport which can easily require a 45 minute trip.

The interior is faded and the corridors have a musty smell. Paint peeling off the walls is a recurring feature. Bathroom fixtures pretty old-fashioned.

At the same time, my bedroom was spacious and reasonably well-equipped, comfortable bed, some local art on the walls added color.

Staff service is pretty good. I called housekeeping for an adaptor which was delivered promptly. I asked for an a la carte grilled fish in the restaurant instead of the buffet on offer...no problem.

The hotel is on the shore but there is no beach to speak of. There is a pool but it's surrounded by an outdoor restaurant. One surprising positive is too tennis courts with a coach on hand.

Overall, the hotel is satisfactory for a couple of nights business trip but you would never stay here if on holiday. Try La Residence instead which has a fine restaurant and a real beach.

First time I came at MERIDIEN LIBREVILLE was in septembre 1998.
I might came less than 15 times in Gabon, once I slept at Intercontinental it was a nigtmare, once a Residence Du Phare but it doesn't worse it.
So I have decided to come back in Meridien since my last stay 4 years ago.
when I enter the lobby I had the feeling to be 15 years backwards.
nothing has change, bar is the same, reception the same, restaurant the same, everything the same even the strange smell in the coridors is the same
I ask for a non smoking room. I was given a room at the 3th floor. we I cam in the room, I smelt already the cigarette. I came back at the reception and I change for a room at the 5Th floor at a crazy price of 178.000 CFA (270 €) not included the breakfat (add 15.000 CFA).
the room was nice, not that big but nearly clean. The bed is good
bathroom design is outdated but is is big, shower are the same as in 1998.
Television reception is as good as in 1998, with white horizontal strips. Choice of channel is OK.
Clim is correct in the room : 2 positions of speed fan but it is OK
Buffet at the restaurant, I do not take. The price is 19.500, crazy.
outside near the pool there is a nice restaurant but not open at night, only for meal but you do not have to be in the rush. Most of the meal are not available like sprawns, Avocados, Calamares, it is just incredible. Service is veeeeeery slown like in the stairs when you ask for a bag for laundry. You can call the room service but they come after 45 mn.
unfortunately Meridien Libreville is the "less worst" hotel in Libreville. LAICO (ex Intercontinental) is renewing at the moment bt as it is now, I mean old, it is a rubbish.
No competition unfortunately in Libreville
MERIDIAN hotel Libreville is like the city of Libreville. When it was built I believe it was nice... but no strong investments have been done since, so everything goes to damage.
Due to heavy traffic in Libreville, Meridien location is not very good now.
Once again in Africa, you can remoce on star on the 4th star that are given to this Meridien
last thing the WIFI at 5th floor is free and quite fast but you need to re-enter your access code everytime. I think for a standard room you have to pay the wifi.

Disclaimer: all my reviews are relative to local conditions and relative to the rates. So a cheap place with five stars may not be as 'good' as an expensive place with three stars and a hotel in Brazzaville will be judged by a different standard than a hotel in London.

This place is not as bad as people here make it out to be. Expensive is not an argument in Libreville, because everything is expensive, but yes, even by Gabonese standards it is overpriced. It is one of the Libreville top-spots and I am sure that once it was really good but it is run down. Yet, it is not as awful as it would seem reading the reports here.

The staff are decidedly unhelpful and rather unfriendly though. Certainly by Gabon standards, because this is quite a friendly country.

My main gripe, however, and a big -2 stars against the Meridien is the number and persistence of the prostitutes here. On my first night there were about a dozen and I found it simply impossible to sit alone in the lobby or the bar and got only lethargic responses to my requests for help from the reception and porters to get these women off my back :) If you're into that kind of thing you'll have the time of your life here :S

I stayed in five Libreville hotels in all so I have something to compare to. The Okoume Palace is run down too, but much better value. Both locations are just beyond where the action is.

..book a room here. Glorious entrance, reception and buffet area and then you head to the floors with rooms. What a difference. Low ceilinged, gloomy corridors - last decorated in the 80s with what then must have been a retro 70s feel! And then there was that smell.. But the room was clean and the bedlinen looked new.

The most disgusting hotel that I have ever stayed in :
This is by far the worst hotel that I have ever stayed in. The rooms and hallways have a wet shaggy dog smell. There are roaches everywhere ; at least one or two would be dancing in my suitcase on any given day. The bathroom has a smell and its tiles are moldy. The internet does not work very well on the third floor ; yet you get charged over 100 dollars for a week’s connection. I literally had to pull my chair in front of the room’s door to get a decent signal.
I am dumbfounded that Meridien headquarters is not doing anything about this hotel. What is worse, everyone says that it is the best hotel in town. They have a total monopoly and thus have no incentive to improve. I stayed in better hotels in Monrovia, and they had 14 years of civil war ! This hotel is going to make me dread coming to Libreville in the future.

My short visit lasted a few hours only, as the room in the 3rd floor was soo poor that after the dinner we decided to search for an alternate hotel during the night - fortunately we found - so we moved out quickly in the night. This hotel is clearly need urgent attention and maintenance because at the moment it is not meeting with any standards and expectation. Restaurant seemed to be fine for the dinner, buffet, however the food quality was also average or poor, was hard to select what we could eat. Overal was a painful experience.

Room Tip: Clearly avoid any room in the 3rd floor,
