We were very excited to be staying at the infamous Addis Sheraton, bur despite the palacial surroundings we encountered one disappointment after another. On check in, we were told that our rate booked through Sheraton Internation/Starwood would not be honored. We made it up to our room/butler service about 2:00 a.m. after a long flight. There was no water in the room and our minibar would not open. After 1 1/2 hours, 2 maintenance workers and butler all came in and out to attempt to open our minibar, they finally gave up, brought us water and we went to bed. The fridge wasa fixed the next day. We had a family emergency and needed to arrange transport the next morning to the southern part of the country. The one conierge was so overwhelmed, he did not get back to us for 2 hours, by which time we had made our own arrangements. Each meal we ate there included one mishap after another, including a pot of coffee brought without any cups, waiting 45 minutes for cups, by which time the coffee was cold. Although courteous, the service was slow in every respect. After 5 days it took over 1 hour to check out at which time our original rate was in fact honored, but the overall experience was very disappointing. The Sheraton caters to groups and diplomats. If you are on your own, be prepared to be overlooked.
