“If you are after a quiet Addis Ababa Experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2012

Nice, clean rooms. Quiet atmosphere. Excellent service. Not far from the United Nations Conference Center. Internet is not free, though. 225 birrs or $15 USD for 24 hours. There is satellite TV, minibar, queen size bed and balcony. A nice experience for my short stay in Addis Ababa.

We stayed here a couple of times earl this year. One of the best Hotels in Addis Ababa. The quality of service, hospitality, courteousness and willingness to assist travelers by the staff is par excellent. Rooms were spacious, comfortable, clean and well maintained.

The best things were the heated swimming pool, jaccuzi and the gym. The buffet breakfast was sumptuous. However, a few more vegetarian dishes could be included.

All in all, a great hotel to stay in. We were welcomed and sent off with very courteous staff.

Looking forward to staying at The Hilton again !!

Room Tip: All rooms well ventilated and look out either to the swimming pool or to the colony close by. Prefer...

4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2012

Stayed the nights of 14-18 October 2012 whilst in Addis Ababa on business. Room rate was US$210 per night for a room with a queen size bed, en suite, balcony, desk, wardrobe, TV with 17 channels and mini bar. Internet not included and charged at US$15 per 24 hours. Airport shuttle also extra at US$5 or ETB92 each way. Meals in the restaurant, such as pizzas and traditional Ethiopian food, are around ETB150-250. Use of the gym, pool and sauna included in the room rate. The Hilton complex has many other facilities including off street parking, gardens, clay tennis courts, volleyball court, cash machines, bank with a bureau de change, supermarket, travel agent, Ethiopian Airlines office, and other specialty shops. The numerous staff were friendly and efficient. The location is not the best for those wanting to go out. There is not much to see near the hotel and it takes around 25 minutes to walk down Yahonis Road to the more lively central areas. Certainly recommended for those wanting comfort, but a more central hotel would be more suitable for anyone wanting easy access to the more active parts of Addis.

If you are interested in expieriencing the spirit of Addis Ababa, skip this hotel. It is a resort that largely isolates you from the energy and views of Addis. It is overpriced in that the rooms are really in bad shape -- faded carpets, holes in the lantern shades, and limited food options at high prices. For the rate paid, one would think that a airport shuttle would be available, but it is not. Pay careful attention on the reservation as you may think that you are paying for a higher room rate to get internet access included, but in reality, a hilton "plus" room at this facility merely means you are paying for the privilege of seeing the tennis courts from your room. Additionally, for a business traveler, the internet in-room capabilities are limited. The only way to stay connected is to sit at the desk hooked to a very short wire as no wireless capability is offered. On the positive side, the hotel staff were outstanding and tried to be helpful in every way. I had a cold and a restaurant server even volunteered to go and buy me medicine. That is the spirit of Ethiopia in fact -- caring people.

Greetings from Hilton Addis Ababa!

Thank you for taking your valuable time to share with us your feedback and the experience of your stay. We apologize for any dissatisfaction you faced with our facilities and we are happy that our service was up to your expectation.

To answer your thoughts regarding the condition of the building, the hotel has been scheduled for major refurbishment for a while now and the plans are soon to be finalized, we realize that this has been a long drawn out affair and again we apologize for any inconvenience this has caused but we are seeing very positive steps being taken for this process to begin especially with the arrival of our new Hilton Serenity Beds and Flat screen TV's.

Thank you again for staying at Hilton Addis Ababa and we hope to be welcoming you back again in the future.

Hilton hotel is nicknamed "hellton" by Addis Ababa community. And there is no much more to say.
The hotel is priced more or less like the Sheraton (expect rates in excess of USD 250 per night plus taxes).
However, while at Sheraton you enjoy true luxury and forget to be in one among the poorest countries in the world, at Hilton you do feel where you are.
Everything, literally everything needs thorough restyling, not to say rebuilding from scratch. Personnel needs much better training to align to international standards.

Greetings from Hilton Addis Ababa!

Thank you for taking your time to share with us your feedback. We apologize for any dissatisfaction you faced with our facilities and services.

Hilton has always been and still is a very important part of the local community and the support we receive from the local and expat community is very clear.

I've been staying in the Hilton Addis Ababa for 3 weeks for work. The hotel is a little dated compared to the nearby Sheraton, but it's more than adequate for the location.
The staff are very helpful and friendly. The food is good but not really geared up for long stay customers, which probably would not affect the tourists.
The area around the hotel is a bit depressing, and can be noisy with the constant tannoys for nearby Mosque & churches. I have colleagues staying in rooms on the pool side of the hotel, who say that there is also noise over there because the pool opens at 5am, so no matter which side of the hotel you are on, there will be noise.

The staff make this hotel what it is, you just have to remember you are in Africa, so this Hilton probably does not match up to the same brand around the world.

I kept looking for thes terrible carpets as mentioned by at least every other reviewer. Modern? Not really, but not faded, and hey a hotel carpet is a hotel carpet. Get over it. They were fine.

Stayed here as a long day use room 10.00-22.00. No complaints. More than adequate and everything worked. Worked, ate in the restaurant, had a snooze and a shower and then took the shuttle back to the airport.

It's an African city hotel, and better than many.
