“The perfect choice for our trip.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2013 via mobile

I was impressed by the GT Guesthouse before we'd even arrived in Addis Ababa. The manager, Lee (Lewam) was efficient and helpful in her communication with us from the beginning. She promised to help organise for my Ethiopian-born daughter to have her hair done in true Ethiopian style and forwarded information about activities we might enjoy and told us about the good restaurants nearby.

Her driver met us at the airport at exactly the time we'd arranged. The guesthouse location was exactly as described & was reasonably central. The accommodation itself surpassed my expectations because it was so large and so clean. In my daughter's eyes our rooms were 'like a palace'. The beds were enormous and very comfortable. The bathroom was spotless & we always enjoyed a good supply of hot water.

It was the staff and service we appreciated most of all. An early morning arrival meant we were hungry, & although we had no right to expect breakfast or lunch, we were really well looked after. The included breakfast was always tasty and very generous (our particular favourite was the pancakes).

Lewam exceeded her management role on more than one occasion; by coming to the hairdressers with us, personally guiding our taxi to a particular restaurant, organising for her sister to drive us to church when there were no other drivers available, and lending us some of her personal DVD collection. She gave us access to a local mobile number for a small fee and kept us informed if there were issues relating to water or wifi. We were always confident that she had such issues well in hand and we were rarely effected. The wifi access was very good.

In my case, I was happy to enjoy an adult conversation at least once a day! In fact it seems almost condescending to mention Lewam's English at all, because she speaks and understands the language as well as I do, but I guess it's something others considering the guesthouse may want to know. The rest of the staff did not have the same skills, but TG (who served breakfast etc.) was absolutely delightful, keen to cater to our every need and certainly clear on our requirements. The men who manned the gate were lovely too.

The guesthouse may have been more expensive than some others in Addis Ababa, but given the level of care, comfort and cleanliness, it was worth the money. It was the right choice for us given the nature of our trip. My daughter was back in Ethiopia for the first time in twelve years (after being adopted as a baby) and she needed the feeling of security and comfort we were provided. It became our home for the two weeks we were there.

I stayed here with my girlfriend in April 2013. It was my first time staying in any form of guest house accommodation but GT Guest House met all my expectations and then some! It has some of the friendliest staff, always available to be of service. The rooms and other areas are cleaned regularly so there's never any build up of dirt or anything. Each floor gets its own wifi connection so internet is always at a decent speed. It's location makes it perfect for accessing the rest of addis so using taxis to go almost anywhere is affordable. The guest house also offers a car and driver for use if required which can also pick you up and drop you off at the airport upon arrival or departure. It's easy to find and in a safe location with access to shops, restaurants, western union, banks, cafe's and pubs all within less than 5 mins walk. I could go on but to summarise, whatever you're doing in addis, this place is probably for you.

It is hard to say enough good things about GT. I have stayed in several guesthouses, backpackers, and budget hotels throughout East and Southern Africa and none have come close to the service or value for money of GT. Great location, staff is wonderful, and everything is top notch: rooms, wifi, showers, electricity, food, airport pickups.

Probably the best thing about GT is the communications - Lee is absolutely wonderful and goes out of her way to make sure you are comfortable.

Tip: Wire transfer ahead or plan on paying in cash on arrival (ATM around the corner).

Room Tip: Stayed with two colleagues on a work trip so took the full floor option mentioned on the website. Th...

I have stayed in a number of hotels and guesthouses in Addis Ababa for both leisure and business. GT guesthouse is a nice place to stay, relatively close to Meskel square. The rooms are nice and clean, the owner is extremely friendly and helpful and try her best to assist you whenever you have a question or a problem. She speaks great English that is also very helpful. Breakfast is included in the room rate and is pretty good. The only problem with the guesthouse is probably the lack of TV in the room. There is a small TV in the shared living room in each floor, but if someone is there before you, you cannot change the channel and have to either watch the same program or go to your room. They also charge for bottled water and tea/coffe after breakfast that was not the case in some other guesthouses I have stayed in Addis like Arequ.

Room Tip: Try to get the room in the higher floors. They have a better view.

My colleague and I stayed at GT for 5 weeks, so it was essentially a home while in Addis. The large bedroom with bathroom inside on the third floor was my home and was perfect, with our essentially having a whole floor for ourselves it really is like a home more than a hotel. Lee and all the staff were always very helpful, with our daily early morning drop off and never ending supplies of water and beer at hand. We had breakfast every Saturday and was a real treat, especially the omelette with cheese and tomato (that description does not do it justice!). It just felt like being at home with some minimal house rules (I seemed to accidentally break them all!), but it will be where I send all future colleagues working in Addis and am just sorry the time is over!

My husband and I stayed at the GT Guesthouse in April 2013 for two weeks. We were so impressed with the clean, spacious rooms. The breakfasts were delicious. The staff were pleasant and accommodating. We felt like family, but treated like royalty. Lee helped us arrange daily transportation in Addis with very competent drivers. She helped us arrange travel to Lalibela. She advised us about places to dine and shop. We had free and stable Wi-Fi, laundry service, and banking within walking distance. One night we were dining with friends when a storm caused a power outage. We returned to the guesthouse and found lit candles were placed on the stairs leading up to our suite. When we unexpectedly needed accommodations for two extra guests, a mattress was brought in to our room and made up for them because there were no rooms available.

Room Tip: Rooms are located upstairs, no elevator.

Great service, maximum punctuality at picking us up at the airport of Bole. Family atmosphere, Clean rooms, nice breakfast served every morning, lovely traditional coffee-ceremony....
Tireless and very helpful driver who took us wherever we wanted to go.
Staff and personell present but never to intrusive or invasive.
Last but not least; Fantastic also the Dog Max, a very playful fotball pro German Shepherd , who my daughters (and I) fell in love with.
Thank you for everything, GT.
