“AMAZING!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2012

This place is one of the best hotels to stay near the Piazza area. A few friends and I stayed here for a couple of nights and loved our stay here. The staff here are very friendly and we even got to meet the owner, who is incredibly nice and even bought us a drink. The airport pickup was free and they were on time. The restaurant here is really really good. My friend said the tibs are the best he's ever had in Addis. The wi-fi is free and very fast (for African standards). The location is awesome too, walking distance from the St. George Cathedral and the Piazza. The price is a little higher than your average hotel/hostel in Addis but the friendliness and the feeling safe and being able to trust your hotel staff definitely makes it worth it. The only small problem we had was that the mattress on the beds in our room were not the best but we told the staff about it and they changed it right away. Overall, amazing hotel and definitely would recommend this place.

This hotel is in a good location, near St. George Cathedral, with services including wi-fi and airport shuttle. Breakfast is good, with fresh juices and some variety of continental and ethiopian dishes. Clean and comfortable, you may expect more for the price you pay. Around 100$ for a double room with breakfast.

This reasonably priced hotel in west-central Addis exceeded our expectations. We stayed here three times over about a ten day period in July. It is not the most notable hotel in Addis and certainly not the most expensive, but we think it may be the best for the average traveler. We were picked up at the airport reliably each stay, twice late at night. Each time we flew out, the front desk checked our flights for delays and made sure we were at the terminal with time to spare. The front desk staff, doormen (and doorwomen) and restaurant crew were unfailingly gracious and helpful. Most hotel claim to anticipate your needs, but these folks truly did so. The rooms (we stayed in both Delux and Standard) were immaculate, fairly roomy and very comfortable. The amenities meet any European or US standard. For example, turn-around for laundry was about two hours. Things such as that matter when you are living out of luggage for three weeks. The breakfast buffet was extensive and restaurant food was very good, and available quite late at night. The owner/manager spoke with us several times to evaluate his staff. One last comment: the cappuccino (with dark chocolate crust) made at the lobby bar on it's vintage expresso machine may be the best I've had anywhere, even in coffee crazy Ethiopia! It was about $1.25 USD. At $148/night for the Deluxe double, including breakfast and all taxes, and $75 for a Standard single, the Regency is a gem.

Room Tip: There is no elevator, so first floor or second is probably best.

I really appreciated this place - staff were really helpful and friendly. For the price you get a comfortable experience and free wifi everywhere is much appreciated. I agree with others that breakfast could be better - a bit tedious after a few days. I was in one of the smaller rooms and so upgraded to the $85 version thinking I might work in the room, though probably wasn't worth the change. Apparently the rooms of the south side are a little bigger. There was some building work going on which is a bit of an issue if you want to sleep in.

Location is walking distance from Addis Ababa Uni which was good for me.
I would also love some kind of fitness machine - maybe a couple of fitness bikes? I appreciate a gym is probably too much to expect on a mid-range hotel like this, but I did consider moving to the Hilton partly because of this.

But overall a great place to stay.

First of all, this is a good balance between cost and quality.
Anyway, i do not think it's the best in Addis Abeba.

My marks are high, anyway, because the room, the service and the restaurant were good.
Starting from the room: i took a deluxe one (95$). It was spacy, clean.
Two little problems: slightly cold inside and noise from outside...
Restaurant: good and cheap. A little bit disappointed by breakfast, not really continental.
Services: excellent.
Location: not far from Piazza.

We were back in Addis in July and stayed at the Regency for a third time. We have always been impressed but on this stay they really out did themselves. To deliver exceptional customer service occasionally deserves praise but to do so consistently over a week is nothing short of miraculous. Add a great team of staff to a handy location and good facilities and you have a winning combo. Thanks for a great stay.

Already this hotel is up to international standards with clean, cozy rooms, a delicious restaurant, and a good location. But what made it stand out was the great service, provided especially by the owner (whose name I have forgotten, unfortunately) and all of the ladies working at reception. The owner (gosh I hate calling him that, sorry!) came and talked to us for about a half hour, which made us feel very special. At reception the ladies made about 10 calls for us, including lost luggage calls (which were especially difficult; the line was very busy). Thank you very much to all of the staff at Addis Regency Hotel! :)
