Right. I stayed in Addis for 7 nghts in March 2012 and loved it. Firstly, I recommend Altitude Guest House highly, if like me you are a single traveller, on a relative budget, wanting to see the the delights of Addis. Although I spent some travelling outside the city, I used the guest house as a base and it was perfect.
Feeling more like a home stay, largely because of Lisa, who knocks up a great breakfast with a smile but also because of its great central location in Bole. And for those of you, like me, that had never visited the city, Bole, is perfectly situated for easy access to everything, bars, cafes, museum's and taxi's to and from.
If you want a sterile hotel experience, Altitude might not be for you. If you want to meet real Ethiopians who know the city, give good advice, and welcome you, then this guest house if spot on.
I also hightly recommend the services of Altitude's in-house tour guide, Yonas. Not only is he a bright and enthusiastic local able to show you around, he's also a good guy to spend time with. I've always been a little suspicious of tour guides thinking they'll be expensive and not quite meet my needs but Yonas was a delight to spend time with, and I'm pleased I decided to take him up on his offer.
