“I'd stay again.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2013

I stayed here for about a week and overall for the price I had a pretty good experience. There were a few minor issues but the hotel tried their best to resolve. The second day i was there i realized that there were a bunch of ants in my room, the hotel offered to move me to another room or come in and spray. I didn't want to cause too much trouble so I just asked them to spray and it pretty much got rid of the ants. Another issue was they didn't tell me until halfway through my stay that the local calls i made actually were act being billed to my room by the minute. I asked if the calls were free when i checked in and they told me that they were, but it turns out my calls to mobile phones were not free (da heck?). We settled on just paying half of the costs, but i still feel as though they should have been more clear with that policy at check-in.

Everything else was pretty cool. The service was good. They have a nice cafe that is open 24 hours on some days. The breakfast is free there for the hotel guests until 12:30pm I think. One of the better clubs in Addis (with tons of pretty women) is in the basement, so you don't have to leave the hotel if you want party. The city is really safe, you can pretty much walk around at anytime and nobody will bother you. When you walk out of the hotel to the right, there are a bunch of restaurants and shops etc. that you can get to on foot. At the first main intersection you can make a left and there are even more places to frequent. If you make a left coming out of the hotel you may run into some unscrupulous women who will want you to share your wealth with them if you know what i mean. Directly across the street is a little store where you can buy everything (bottled water etc.) for really cheap.

Oh and be careful taking the taxi from the hotel (or any hotel for that matter). They will try to charge you 200-250 birr to take you to a place that another taxi a block away would only charge 80 birr to take you to. If you have any questions about anything, feel free to contact me.

Room Tip: Make sure you have you have your reservation handy upon checking in/checking out, they might try to...

Besides the central location with some good restaurants nearby, the biggest assest of the Yoly Hotel is the access to the gym that is located in the same building. It is not the kind of smallish gym, where they put some weights in a spare room in order to claim that the hotel has a gym, but at Yoly this is a real club with paying members, that as a hotel guest you can use as well. (though not the sauna, which is a little odd).
I would come back to the Joly, just for the gym.
The room was nice and clean. Staff at the reception always friendly and helpful.
At weekends it can get a little loud, due to the club in the basement.

If you are looking for cheap hotel, this is the place. Yoly is a good alternative and close to the airport. You get good service, more space in your room and clean with with nice furniture. The hotel is in a very good location. The hotel also offers good spa services. The disco DJ club is nice place to hang out. I encourage tourists to stay here.

If you want to avoid the highly priced major chain hotels in Ethiopia's capital, Yoly is a good alternative. Less than 10 min from the airport and near to many embassies and other destinations in the city, this relatively small boutique hotel offers friendly service, spacious and clean rooms with nice furniture and hardwood floors (no old carpeting!), decent bathrooms as well as free internet and breakfast. Beds are good, the only thing that could disturb your sleep are noises from the residential neighborhoods but this can be an issue in many Addis hotels. I made the reservation request through their website and got fast response. They sent a car to pick me up at the airport - the return transfer is not included but a taxi costs only about US$ 6. My room did not have AC but the windows open and nights in Addis are cool so the room temperature was fine for me.

An ATM is in the building, several restaurants, coffee shops etc nearby (turn right when you step out of the hotel). Several small bars to the left are of the red-light type, so don't get too close as a single male unless you know what you might be getting into. But everything is peaceful and safe, I never had any security problems in Addis. The building in which the hotel occupies the floors 5-7 has its own 24 hour security.

Room Tip: Yoly describes the room types on their websites

I had a prearranged booking but when I arrived I was informed that the initially agreed price was increased by more than 30 USD. This was quite disappointing and in my opinion very unprofessional. The hotel had my e mail address and could have easily informed me of the change. Apart from this problem the place is good overall. The rooms are very spacious and clean. It also had a stove although with no cookery I wondered what guests are supposed to do with it. The reception is at the fifth floor right on the corridor to the rooms. I found this rather awkward particularly with so many girls at the reception who are giggling whenever a guest comes in and gets out. The restaurant has very little choice and no Ethiopian food. The breakfast is very basic and perhaps too basic for the price they are charging. Despite this however I would definitely consider staying there again if they promise not to increase the price upon my arrival.

The hotel is in a very good location. It has good view especially from the terrace lounge. Nice service. The hotel also offers good spa services. The disc on the second floor is nice place to hang out on weekend.
