“There are better options close by”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 1, 2013

I have never been a big fan of Loti at its old location, but we gave it another try after we heard good things.

Overall, I am still not impressed. While the setting has improved and is overall nicer and more intimate than the very close by 'Arcobaleno' (and thus it lends to many comparisons), the prices are higher, the portions smaller and not as good.

The service has to be commended, the 'open both lids from plates at the same time' is a neat trick that might impress a girl on a first date. My wife found the waiter to be very (too?) observant.

The food. I was dissapointed about my 'heart of beef' ... which in shape looked very much like the same slab I usually get from the butcher. In other resto's they at least try to make it look like a piece of filet. At 165ETB it is also the most expensive (compared to arco and grani di pepe). My wife had the lamb and she reports that it felt like this had been roasted a week ago and now re-heated. The amuse bouche (mini crackers that reminded me of cat-food [only visually] with a nice butter-something cream) was a nice gesture ...

Two things that bugged me ... the chairs are not fitting with the tables ... they are too low. And as nice as it is that the owner lady checks in on the guests ... she interrupted us in the middle of a discussion and then would just not find the right point in time to leave.

I might come again to try some of their other dishes, but there are other nice places at better value.

“New location even better!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2013

Loti has recently relocated and can now be found on Mekanissa Rd, about 200 m past the Vatican and Indonesian Embassies on the right.

The new old-style Addis Villa is even more inviting than the previous place. Newly renovated but in known ambiente. With the move the prices have been increased but the delicious food and excellent service compensates for this. When dining with two on one table, two waiters come at the same time, synchronously place the plates in front of you and lift the cover. Can't get any better in Addis.

Still 150% recommended.

“Delicious! And a hidden gem...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2013

As soon as we walked in, we admired the romantic and beautifully decorated restaurant- we felt welcomed in that cozy space. And the delicious, fresh and plentiful food certainly impressed- we started with appetizers (crackers and dip-on the house!!), and I had the Henry IV soup, a well-seasoned pepper steak and veggies (in season and perfectly cooked)... and we shared a wonderful pumpkin pie. Good wine selection. The service was very good. The restaurant owner/manager had told us that they would be moving to a new location in the Mekanisa area-near the Indonesian Embassy in Feb/March '13. We will definitely visit again!

“Pleasant surprise - fully recommended”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2012

We live in Addis for a while but never went to the Loti Restaurant. Last night we gave it a try and were very pleasantly surprised - despite what other reviewers have stated....and we are very picky to say the least: Both atmosphere and service was excellent. The restaurant is located in a small villa in Old Airport close to what is known as the "Karl's square" (take the road towards South African Embassy and then turn the first right). However, the Loti is re-locating to another place close by in about two weeks as the owner informed us. The new location will be in Egypt Street (Mekanissa) between Vatican Embassy and Mekane Yesus Church.

We had a french onion soup for starter followed by porc german style and cordon bleu. Both starter as well as main dishes were fantastic. Topped be delicious deserts we stepped out very pleasantly surprised and satisfied. The service was very prompt and professional and the lady who owns the Loti came to our table twice for a short chat and to check that all was ok. She is a lovely lady with a lot of "class" which fully translates into her delicious and authentic french food. Full recommended and we hope that the new place manages to retain the same atmosphere and quality.

“Menu choices impressive - on paper”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2012

French restaurant in Old Airport - is what is on the sign. Ambiance is great, service is okay, but food on menu is lightyears away from what we got on our plates.
Expensive for the quality.
