Having stayed here for a month now business recently I have to write and say that I have never felt more unwelcome or poorly looked after by a hotel before (1 or 5 star). The hotel building itself is of good quality and the facilities good, but the service terrible and 'extra' charges close to extortion. $10 for a bottle of mineral water, $50 for a game of tennis, $60 for a buffet supper (which is largely inedible and rarely varied)..... and If you fancy a work out in the well equipped gym and can find some equipment not already being dripped over by a non resident external ‘member’ of the health club, be prepared to pay extra to use some of the machines (eg power plate - what is that all about?).
The customer facing staff are generally rude and unhelpful and seem on the whole to be annoyed by guests asking for assistance. The security team are like night club bouncers treating their guests with utter disdain, being shouted at and generally bullied by an overweight buffoon is hardly a good first impression for a 5 star hotel. This poor staff attitude is by and large ignored by most of the management team who seem far too busy and self important to train their staff any differently or even notice?
Having complained to the management of a severe bout of food poisoning from the buffet supper, I heard nothing in response, no medical assistance was offered, no apology was given and the standard of food hygiene not altered at all. If you must stay here, avoid the fish!
Unfortunately there are few alternatives if you must travel to Djibouti, which is probably why the management seem so unconcerned about the service their staff are providing. My stay was a great disappointment, I hope that your experience will be different, but until all the staff receive some training in customer service and the management stop the extortion, somehow I doubt it will be!
