“Wonderful service, amazing staff members - such a great experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 15, 2012

not knowing what to expect in Burundi, i was really pleasantly surprised to find the hotel such a modern, clean, impressive place. For an African country they were surprisingly punctual, although meals could be a little slow. We were met at reception with cold juice, we had been checked in prior to our arrival and keycards etc had all been issued.
The staff were fantastic, they went out of their way to assist as much as they could, there are a couple of them with impeccable English, so no language issues were experienced at all.
The restaurant had a good menu choice and the breakfast buffet was really great, the chef was quite willing to make meals not specified on the menu. the meeting room facilities were good and the pool, sauna, steam room and gym are as well, and the use thereof is included in the room price!

If i had one negative it would be, uhm, oh - no negative :-)

Thank you to all the staff that made this trip so pleasant. I can really recommend this hotel to anyone travelling to Bujumbura and i hope to stay there again in the future.

Having now visited Burundi a few times, and sampled some of the hotel offerings, this is the best you will find in the city. The hotel offers excellent wireless internet facilities (this is crucial in a country where internet is shaky everywhere), the rooms are very modern, clean and well-done. The staff is helpful, the food is quite good, and it offers a golf course for non-business travelers. It's probably not what you are looking for when on holiday (in that case, stay in the Hotel Club du Lac Tanganyika), but a good, clean and safe bet for business travelers. Hotel does not have a business centre, but the reception is more than willing to print for you. There is also a small fitness centre and pool. For about 120 dollars a night, this place is a steal.

Coordinated a conference here in March and overall had a very pleasant stay.
- well-equipped rooms (AC, CNN, good bathroom, nice balcony)
- tasty food off the menu, if a bit expensive (menus in French only and no sandwiches, pizzas, or lighter items)
- conference facilities were good, though the smaller meeting rooms are practically hidden downstairs.
- the layout of the floors is very confusing... Stairs don't go all the way down to the ground floor... The elevators don't 'match up', what one marks as the 5th floor the other marks as the 3rd! Annoying AND a fire hazard if you need to get out fast! So take note of your exit route.
- the finishes in the room are very nice, but it's all cheap and was already showing wear-and-tear, even just a month or two into operation so beware as time goes by!
- The staff make a genuine effort to be accomodating, but like many places the response can be slow, and speaking English can be a big challenge.

Overall, I felt comfortable and safe at all times and was near city center for meetings etc.

We only ate the food was good but cannot say how the rooms were! Service was slow but friendly And for Bujumbura I think this is a good bet . The setting is nice next to the golf course , great pool.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2012

I spent four days at the Roca Golf Hotel in Bujumbura in early March 2012. The hotel has recently opened, though some areas are still under construction and the staff is "learning the ropes." The location is convenient for meetings at government offices etc., and for golfers free access to the golf course would be a huge bonus (I am not a golfer, so can't comment on the quality of the course, though it looks to be well-maintained). The rooms are new, clean, and reasonably well furnished but too many details are yet to be worked-out: only 3 hangers in the closet and no drawers, an empty mini-bar, wifi Internet frequently interrupted and slow when working, the room not cleaned for 2 days for no evident reason, ceiling-mounted A/C with a remote control labelled in Chinese, which I more or less figured-out by trial and error.

During my stay most of the clientele were air crew from Arab countries, apparently on contract to the large UN operation in this part of Africa, and official delegations from other countries which meant an occasional police presence in the public areas. The restaurant is large and well equipped but the menu is dated and pricy, on the heavy side with no sandwich or pizza options even at lunch or on weekends. The bar next to the lobby is still being fitted with equipment for draft beer but is partially functional (though several times I had to search for someone to bring the bill afterwards). There is a small but modern swimming pool in the courtyard, and also a small fitness center facing the pool area.

At checkout I learned (it was not posted) that they only accept Visa or US dollars cash, no MasterCard or American Express. The staff were friendly but still learning how to operate the payment system, which caused some anxiety but eventually went through. I moved to another hotel with much better facilities and a lower price, though somewhat outside of town and less convenient for meetings. If the intended audience is golfers than the Roca Golf is an easy choice, and once the kinks are worked-out of the services this could be a good choice.

For non-golfers the published rate of US$ 190 for a standard room is high, and I am not convinced that the location or amenities are worth this amount. Fix the Internet and upgrade the restaurant menu, and the Roca Golf would be much more interesting. Even closer to the center of town, the former Novotel hotel is now being refurbished and will reopen as a Hilton DoubleTree Inn, which could be welcome competition in a city without many good options.

Stayed there at the begining of february.
The hotel is very modern with all the amenities you would expect from a 4 star anywhere in the world. Very friendly staff and magnificient view on the golf course. The best option for business travellers and golf players (green fee included in the room price).

Room Tip: Make sure to ask for a room with view on the golf course
