“Exotic choice of rooms”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 6, 2012

A bit pricey but a great place for an 'experience' in one of the theme rooms where the culture of different ethnic groups is highlighted and a variety of art for sale. Food is excellent, with seasonal additions to menu. Varying free appetizers to start and drink/tea to end is a friendly touch.

“No rush laid back”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 29, 2012

Gondwana has been opened for a few years now and although I had passed by it many times it was only recently I had opportunity to dine here. I've been twice and on both occassions we pre-booked. Unfortunately, this was necessary as very often restaurants in west Africa dont have all the ingredients for the meal, and can sometimes run-out! Its no bad thing to pre-book and pre-order. On both occassions it was evening when I dined but mosquitos were not around and yes it is an 'open' restaurant so dont expect air-con if you need it. The style of the restaurant is hard to pin-down, it has different areas with varying styles, I believe the layout and styles represent different geography and landscapes. (Gondwana is the name used by science to represent the earth's combined land masses before the continents seperated) its unusual but not unpleasant, indeed the owners have worked hard to create an eclectic mix. The food itself was fine, although on both occassions it took forever to arrive at the table. Burkina Faso has greater links to France than any other European nation and as such the French approach to dining is evident, but waiting an hour for dinner to arrive is stretching the 'French' connection even beyond the French! The dining area we were seated at was low tables and low chairs, I found it uncomfortable as I had to lean forward and crouch over the table to eat. Not my 1st choice of restaurant in Ouagadougou, Le Verdoyant is better.

“Gorgeous deco and ambiance, average food.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 28, 2012

Gorgeous deco, a variety of places to sit. All deco is also for sale! Ambiance is lovely, the best is the rooms that have soft sand underfoot instead of your typical floor. Average food.

“great atmosphere & good food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2012

Great Atmosphere, cool decor, the floors are covered in sand and the art on the walls was very nice (all items for sale). Out door seating or indoor with air conditioning. The service was very good, English menus were nice to have. We had the steak, it was very good and the taxi burger, it was a 4 burger in one..it was huge. At the end of the meal were we served mint tea which was very good. I would recommend this restaurant.
