“Fantastic!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2012

My wife and I spent 6 days at Lokuthula - not enough time! Our lodge was wonderful - clean, inviting and very spacious with a full kitchen. It was serviced beautifully every day by, as I recall, Evans - and it was wonderful to be constantly surrounded by all the animals and birds. The two meals we had at The Boma were superb, and a lot of fun too.

The complimentary shuttle into town was a big bonus, and the meals at the nearby Safari Lodge were truly excellent. We had a wonderful time and so a big thanks to ALL the staff, who - without exception - were welcoming, flexible and very professional. Well done indeed - I highly recommend Lokuthula!

Hello Brian in Florida
Your review of our Lokuthula self-catering lodges is greatly appreciated and when you still want to stay longer after six days then that speaks volumes. When people book for a lower-cost self-catering unit they usually have visions of a scruffy backpackers lodge in mind; then on arrival they are surprised at the quality of the lodge and the natural EXPERIENCE it provides.

Canvas zip-up walls on the verandas can be daunting for some people who love their lock-and-key comfort zone, but that is part of the wonderful bush experience that you so loved. Indeed, of our 49 reviews for Lokuthula 46 have been 4 or 5 stars: Excellent or Very Good. Only one has ever rated it terrible; but they were obviously not keen to be so close to the bush!

With best regards from Victoria Falls where the summer rains are starting to roll in

Just finishing a medical mission trip with LEAP-Foundation in Harare, Zimbabwe, 7 of us came to Lokuthula for 4 days of vacation and de-programming. We were overwhelmed with joy when we entered our #20 lodge. The lodge was clean, spacious and comfortable. We stopped in town and grocery shopped so our kitchen was stocked and ready for our vacation. Each morning we raised the tarps, (basically the walls) to enjoy the visits from Wort hogs, Monkeys and other animals while we had our breakfast. Upon returning from our excursions each afternoon, our lodge was cleaned and tidy. The price was very AFORFABLE and I would stay there again!! The main lodge was within a 10 minute walk and had a beautiful pool and deck for relaxing; great food and internet access for a small fee. There is also a free shuttle that runs from the lodges to the main hotel and main hotel to Victoria Falls all day. We were 6 Americans and one Australian...LOVED THIS PLACE!! Be sure to use your bed netting..lots of mosquitos in the evening. Boma, the African experience restaurant was 5 minutes from our lodge, suggest doing it one of the first nights you arrive..very interactive and fun. There is another pool near the lodges that was very nice and clean.

Room Tip: If you are planning on going to main hotel, request a lower number lodge. We were in 20 which was on...

Hello Janet in Texas

If ever our team could stand very tall and proud it is after your marvellous review of our Lokuthula self-catering lodges. I have shared it with all of them; it means a lot when guests respond as enthusiastically as this, so we thank you very much.

It is particularly wonderful when a guest’s expectations are surpassed. Maybe because Lokuthula is so very affordable people think they may be going to something of dubious style and standards? You said it all: “We were overwhelmed with joy when we entered our room.”

You six Americans and one Aussie showed your adventurous spirit and relished the experience!

My warmest regards

We stayed two nights with our two young girls Helen and Kathryn (11 & 9) in lodge No 4. Very clean and comfortable with great views from our veranda of a new waterhole. Warthogs and banded mongoose grazing around the lodge was brilliant for a first timer in Africa. All the staff we met were friendly and very helpful. We ate at the Boma on our first night and the safari lodge the next. Both meals were excellent. Breakfast in the safari lodge the first morning was mind blowing with the views we had overlooking the main waterhole. The children loved the pool whilst we relaxed after the long journey from the UK. Shuttle service into town was available if needed so access to the falls was easy. A truly wonderful place to start our trip in Zimbabwe.

Dear Gilly and family in Cheshire

Your glowing 5-Star review of our very cost-effective self-catering units at Lokuthula has made us all proudly shine too! I have showed it to as many staff as I can and they all just beamed! Thank you for your most generous comments on all aspects, including your delight in watching the warthogs and mongooses on the lawns near your lodge. Sometimes the small animals can be just as enchanting as the elephants and lions!

Your enthusiasm as a family shines through and your statement that ours was “a truly wonderful place to stay” will do us a power of good. Conversely I really loved visiting Chester many years ago – really beautiful with great ambiance.

These self catering lodges are very clean, tastefully furnished an a lot of fun. We had a two bed room lodge which sleeps 6.

The grounds are very well maintained but still very authentic. There are Water Buck, monkeys, warthogs and more literally on your door step.

It is very close to the main attractions and the parent hotel is a minutes walk away as well as the Boma restaurant

We would definitely stay here again!

Hello acekicker!
Wish I knew which country you are from?! Many thanks indeed for your 5 Star review of our self-catering Lokuthula Lodges which you rated as very clean and "a lot of fun." You mention that waterbuck, monkeys, warthogs and more literally come to your doorstep....you may be surprised to learn that on occasion elephants, buffalo and even lions have been close to the lodges! Thank you for telling the world that you would 'definitely stay here again"...though watch out for those lions when next you are enjoying a BBQ overlooking that superb vista!

My warmest regards

Fantastic stay at Lokuthula lodges (17-18-19 Aug) in Victoria Falls. Everything is said in the positive reviews here on Tripadvisor , so not much to add other than to perhaps praise their restaurant, Boma restaurant. For all restaurants out there who fight hard to bring a sense of interesting entertainment, here is a restaurant that effortlessly hits on all the right notes: you could literally see that every single individual present during my meal there was engaged/interested/pleased by the entertainment offered (for sure, local dancing, chanting, drum show at a restaurant is not un-common in exotical places, but how many places can proud themselves to virtually have the entire crowd genuinely being moved by what they do offer??). The overall experience at the lodge, all along my stay here, was in my personal assessment a lesson in hospitality standards that many hotels around the world would benefit from (felt so welcome, not one single complaint to address, and most importantly: we felt so good being here, which is the ultimate impression I need to get when holidaying) . It was really a breeze to have discovered such a place where all the amateurish laughable little sorrows found elsewhere (for ie: how many places treat you with sub standard service just because you look like a local, and yet you take it for granted just so that you can move on and appreciate your time, Lol) are wiped away, making room for a real treat as it should be when you pay to enjoy some good time out. This is definitely some top level stuff, all genre of hospitality ventures taken into account.

Hello California
Wow! Wow! & Wow!!!
Thank you for your very generous review of our self-catering Lokuthula Lodges and the 5 Star ranking. We are very proud that 42 of our 44 reviews so far rate us as excellent or very good, but few match your glowing testimonials such as "a lesson in hospitality" and "fantastic stay."

We are particularly delighted that you entered into the spirit of the rousing fun we try to devise at The Boma, because some find it "touristy". We don't pretend to be authentic, merely we try to devise an evening of family entertainment with several realistic snapshots of traditional culture. In your review you reflect the mood of real fun and crowd engagement. You did us proud...thanks so much!

We stayed at Lokuthula a couple of weeks ago with our kids. Everyone had a great time at the Lodge and at Victoria Falls in general. The lodge staff were very helpful and obliging and we found the Victoria Falls people to be friendly and honest. Prices for the touristy things e.g Falls entrance were on the high side but we got some good deals at the Open Market. We didn't have any monkeys visit our lodge, but did have mozzies. Lots of them. So bring out the spray. We brought the majority of our food and supplies from Johannesburg, but the Spar in Vic Falls seemed to be well stocked up.

We stayed in a three bedroom lodge for four nights and had a pretty good time. The free shuttle into town leaves every hour and is great for getting your groceries etc

some of the rooms are open to the outside but we had no issues with bugs or cold, actually we were quite toasty in our loft room in the middle of winter! The kitchen had everything we needed for cooking and the Bomoa and main lodge are also close by (well within walking distance) so we ate there a few times too.

The main lodge had some construction going on which would have been nice to know about prior to booking as the shop was closed and the restaurants had been closed / relocated during the week we were there. This didn't distract us too much and should be finished soon anyway.

Overall a good stay and would probably stay here again if returning.
