“Great location - not so great hotel.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2013

We stayed at the Kingdom Hotel for one night in January 2013 to visit the falls.

Airport transfer was not included in the room rate so we had to arrange individually. The hotel directed us to "Falcon Safaris" offering a pricy (60 USD for 2 persons) but reliable pick-up service. Be prepared that Falcon staff goes on and on offering all kinds of activities on the 20 min drive to the hotel.

Check-in was efficient and reception staff friendly. The whole hotel complex is huge but everything feels kind of run-down. The artificial lake was a dump full of algae and therefore a mosquito hatchery. Minibar and mosquito-nets were missing in the room, the balcony was full of dead insects. However, the a/c and bathroom facilities were working fine and the bed was clean.

Of the hundreds of rooms only few were occupied what gave the hotel a creepy atmosphere. In the big breakfast room dozens of waiters were standing around a single occupied table.

The hotel's only big advantage justifying a 3 points rating is its location. Through the back gate it's only a short walk to the entrance of the Victoria Falls National Park. We could also go on a walk to some baobab trees from the hotel.

Altogether "The Kingdom" is definitely not the "luxury" property it's claiming to be, however for our one night stay and given the situation in Zimbabwe the place was quite alright.

The service in general was average, The staff outside the hotel's doors (carrying the bags, opening the gate etc.) were very friendly, funny, helpful plus honest about prizes. The waitors and receptionists brought down the overall review. The restaurant had a nice atmosphere and live local music. Our room was nice and clean with mosquitonets. Close to both town and the fall.

We stayed here for 2 nights whilst visiting Victoria falls. Short walk to the falls. We found the staff very friendly and helpful. The rooms are nice and spacious and comfortable. Clean hotel with modern amenities. Across in the park we were able to watch the baboons play. Would definitely stay again.

We (my family) 3 days including Christmas at Kingdom hotel and i must commend the stuff for bending over backwards trying to please their guests. We had a family room which was quite specious as we have a 3 year old. The atmosphere and the whole environment was something i would go back to any other day given the chance. Deff a place to go to :).

Stayed at The Kingdom with my 2 adult children for 1 week, part of a month long trip in Africa. I chose the hotel based upon its location.
The pros:1. Location-right in Victoria Falls you can walk there through the back gate of the hotel, although I recommend the tourist police escort you as you will be accosted by the locals hiding in the bush waiting to sell you their wares.
2.The women working at the excursion desk. Definitely use the hotel services and book your excursions through them. It is easy and very inexpensive! We did 2 excursions a day...safaris,day & night, helicoptor tour over falls, walking tour of falls, elephant ride, lion walk etc.. (we also did devils pool, however hotel does not book this but they will direct you to hotel next door)
3. I thought the food was o.k. We could always find something at the buffet that we could eat. Plus, at many of the excursions they are feeding you great meals!
4. Wildlife - it was so much fun watching the baboons running right outside our balcony or on the grounds of the hotel, I was easily amused!!

Now for the cons:
1. STAFF- yes I put that in all caps on purpose! We were joking most of the trip about how we were feeling taking our malaria medication Malarone-(it can give you psychotic dreams and make you feel somewhat like a zombie.) we decided the entire staff at this hotel is taking mass quantities of Malarone!
The evening that we checked in I went to the concierge desk and asked where the nearest ATM was since the hotel's ATM was no longer functioning, (and didn't look like it had worked in quite a few years) it was like a game of 20 questions with this woman. When I finally get the directions from her, which was about 1/2 block from the hotel and I am steps from the door she then tells me it would be "safer" to go in the morning. Could she maybe have mentioned that first???
2. Service-you will need to know that if you need to break your bills down and get change from the desk you will need to do this in the morning. They receive their money early and when they run out they can no longer break bills for you.
Also, don't ask for ice...I realize this is totally an American thing... (We amercans need our drinks cold) and when my son when down to the bar with his ice bucket and tip $ he was met with hostility!
Overall, the location of this hotel is great, rooms are clean, food. Is adequate. If they could just do something about their staff...like fire 98% of them and start over with new personnel!! :)

I spent 2 days here along with my 5 day stay at Elephant Hills Hotel. This is a beautiful hotel with all modern amenities. The food at the hotel was very good, (try the Crocodile) but expensive, dinner ran $50/person. the only problem with this hotel, is the customer service at the buffet is sub-par. They need some work on that, but it wasnt so terrible that we didnt want go in there.

The grounds are to die for.. the Pool is great.. On those hot Zimbabwe days (I mean it was HOT) it hit th spot. You can see out to Zambia from the grounds.

This hotel is right across the street from the entrance to the falls but also the main road to the border with Zambia. There are huge truck barreling down the road so make sure you all cross carefully. The hotel is also right beside little shops to buy crafts and souveniers.. make sure you have your bargining hat on or they will get you on prices!! but hey, everyone is trying to make a living right....

The casino is quite but nice if you feel like having a little fun, but its not like you are going to hit the jackpot there. There is a nice club for those dancers out there. They play mostly North American Music and the weekends seems to have lots of locals, which to me was great and fun. We danced the night away a few times...

Rooms are nice. I had no complaints..
Its a bit pricey to stay hence the reason we stayed only for 2 days but worth it.. We had a lovely time and would def go back... Too bad I live all the way in Canada so its not that cheap or easy to get there!

You will enjoy it!!! Its Hot!

We stayed at The Kingdom during our time in Zimbabwe and would happily go back there if we return to the area. The hotel is picturesque from the moment you arrive, the staff is quite friendly and helpful, and the rooms were well kept.
While not large, the rooms are comfortable and clean; it appeared that most of them have a balcony/patio. Room service is readily available (and like all room service, you will pay for the convenience). It is important to keep doors/windows closed, Africa does have bugs and other assorted animals. When sitting on the balcony, we did find ourselves ducking as bats flew through our airspace, but we rather enjoyed having some local beer and dodging wildlife.
The hotel restaurant was a bit overpriced, but the food was good and the service was impeccable (for both breakfast and dinner). We did enjoy the live music and dancing provided during dinner.
Being able to walk from the hotel to Victoria Falls National Park was a bonus, but you should be a bit prepared for the experience. There are a number of locals who will follow you trying to get you to buy their trinkets or trade your shoes, hats, shirts, etc for whatever they have... and they are persistent. When you walk out of the back gate, one of the hotel security staff will accompany you heading to the falls, but you'll be on your own for the walk back.
There is a casino, but we didn't try it out. The courtyard bar and pools were quite nice though.
Overall, we had a great experience.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the inner courtyard/ponds. The interior grounds are very relaxing and you are...
