“Wonderful Camp on the Zambezi”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2013

We spent two wonderful two nights here in early July as part of a two week trip to Zimbabwe and South Africa. For those wishing to spend a few nights at a safari lodge as part of a trip to Victoria Falls, this is a great place to stay. The lodge is located in a private concession overlooking the Zambezi River providing great views and uncrowded game viewing. This is a great lodge for viewing herds of elephant crossing the river which is a truly wonderful sight. The guides and staff are very knowledgeable and helpful. Our guide was Abe and his enthusiasm was absolutely contagious.

The only reason I gave Imbabala 4-stars instead of 5-stars is that it's not in a big five area (no rhinos) and predator sightings can be hit or miss. Provided a prospective visitor understands this in advance, the opportunity to see elephants and other game from the river along with good general game viewing in a beautiful setting more than makes up for it in my opinion.

The cottages were wonderful, with nice, comfortable beds and a small sitting area in the back between the bed and the bathroom. Meals are served communally with the chef coming out to announce the meal (a nice touch) and guests sitting together with their guide (another nice touch). Afterwards, they had a nice camp fire near the bar which was a great opportunity to chat with other guests and staff while enjoying the sounds of the bush.
If you've always wanted to see elephants in the river and see the majestic sable antelope in beautiful location without hordes of vehicles gathered around a sighting this is a great place to visit.

Had a great 2 night stay at Imbabala. All of the staff were very personable and made sure we were well taken care of. The lodge blended into the natural surroundings which was inviting for the animals to visit us. It was awesome to have breakfast/dinner or just lying in our hammock while watching animals wandering around on the property, Very peaceful and serene. Loved the sunset cruise. I also enjoyed the fact that dinner is served family style and all guests sit together (unless guests request otherwise) and that Annie and her husband (the managers) actually sit with the guests at dinner and converse. It was also great to stop on the game drives or sunset cruise and be offered a little snack or drink (beer & wine included). I would highly recommend staying here. Only negative thing I can say is that papers in room and at check in say that wine is included in cost but at check out we were charged for the wine, it was no big deal since it was only $2 a glass so can't really complain about that.

Firstly I would like to apologize for the confusion about the inclusion of wine. We have recently had to change our policy and one of our old price-lists must have stayed behind in the room. Secondly, thank you for the lovely review and positive words. We are glad you enjoyed dinner times and we (Brad and Annie) are only to happy to enjoy a meal with our guests. Please come back soon for a visit…….. the wine is on us :-)!

We only stayed 2 days but would have loved to stay longer. All of the staff was very pleasant and helpful. The food was great. The sleeping was great. We had a heating pad in our bed at night that was turned on with our turndown. I highly recommend this place. Being on the river we saw a lot.

Great stay with very friendly staff at Imbabala. Nothing was too much trouble for these can do people with every effort made to make our stay as good as it could be for us. I caught an enormous tiger fish (much to the dismay of my fellow male travellers)which the chefs made into delicious fish fritters for our 'goodbye lunch'. The game drives, river safaris and sunset cruises were excellent with very knowledgeable guides. Stan was our man, he was great! Brad's warm welcome was well received. This safari lodge is small so the staff can tend to their guests on a personal level. The individual lodges were very clean and comfortable and we were very well cared for. There are no fences so animals wander quite freely and being so close to the Zambezi gives a second string to the safari bow. Highly recommend Imbabala

Your kind review is much appreciated. After outshining the boys in fishing, you definitely deserved those fritters!! J We have a great team and so glad their service shined through and you felt so well taken care of. Stan is one in a million and we are lucky to have him. A lovely relaxing 3 days in a natural environment with several thrilling moments - like being woken by an elephant feeding on the bougainvillea outside our tent in the early hours. Then there was the 3kg tiger fish! Lovely staff and great food. Thanks Stan, Brad and Annie

The 4 days at Imbabala Safari Lodge were way beyond expectations. This lodge was perfect in every way for us. Its location on the river and surrounds together with the exceptional personal service made this a never to forget experience. The food, service, personal guides and the wildlife made this a very special place. The location is not fenced allowing wildlife into the lodge area and this limits guests from roaming around the surrounds and should be pointed out to anyone wishing to stay.
