The grounds are magnificent and the convenience is excellent. For the most part the staff are helpful but they are quick to say "yes" and yet do not always fulfill the request. Our room was well appointed yet needs to be updated. The food was mediocre. I would suggest to others going to Vic Falls to look at accommodations on the Zambia side of the river.

You must stay here more than one night to appreciate this place. I felt like I was walking into a movie set of a 19th century safari story. Unfortunately, I had only one night here, as part of a small Road Scholar group. One needs time just to appreciate this old but well-maintained gem. The property is spread out, and one must do a lot of walking to get from room to restaurants to grounds (not a complaint), I found the staff to be very welcoming. The buffet in the Jungle casual restaurant, away from the main reception area, was excellent and abundant. Dancers and drummers entertained the evening we had dinner. "Vancana"'s review of this property is excellent, and I defer to him/her.

Room tip: Rooms vary, so it depends on what you want to pay and what is important to you. I was just fine in my small room facing a courtyard.

The location of the hotel and its grounds are second to none.
Reception rooms, restaurant, bar are all beautifully appointed and very pleasant.
Staff are friendly and helpful.
The rooms however, although comfortable, are in desperate need of a major overhaul to bring them up to current standards of a top level hotel.
Overall we were happy with our stay in the hotel because we spend practically no time (except to sleep) in the room.
The hotel needs a major room investment program to bring the quality of the rooms in line with the rest of its offering and standard of service.

Our two night stay at this grand hotel was an ambition fulfilled, and it didn't disappoint! Sure there is a little wear on the edges, but when considering the age of this Edwardian timepiece, and the turmoil the country and its people have endured for years, it's remarkable that such an historic establishment retains its lustre and charm.

The common areas are spacious and beautiful, with antique furniture, photos, and reminders of a faded age at every turn. Do take the time to explore the many corridors and lounge areas to fully absorb the character of this colonial classic.

As in most hotels of this scale and grandeur, the rooms vary in size and quality. We were fortunate enough to stay in a large corner room that overlooked the well manicured back lawns and the bridge over the gorge, which made a lovely sight as we drank our coffee watching the sun rise over the spray from the falls. Taking a quick look in some of the other rooms, I can understand how it would impact some reviews. Our bathroom was older looking in style, but very functional. The room furnishings were period pieces, and the bed was lovely and comfortable.

We had dinner one evening in the Livingstone Room, a wonderfully refined experience with chandeliers, a grand piano, and old fashioned attentive service to complete the ambience as we enjoyed our well prepared meal. Breakfast is good standard buffet fare, and high tea on the terrace was an absolute delight and highly recommended.

The staff were generally helpful and pleasant, and service was sedate, so just relax because that's how it is! If you stay at the Victoria Falls Hotel and expect comparisons with five star hotels around the world, then I don't think you'll relish your visit as much as if you immerse yourself in the history and enjoy it for what it is, a majestic grand old lady in the middle of Africa.

We stayed two nights here in October and were very impressed with the welcome, I noticed some people have complained about the staff constantly asking or rather expecting tips but I did not experience this at the hotel, in the town and on the walk down to be falls be wary of the Hasslers, who constantly hassle you for money, I kindly told them to go away.

The location is superb, the room we were in was ok the aircon needed fixing. We took dinner in the Stanley restaurant which was splendid. All in all our stay at the hotel was
a memorable one
