5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2013

We had a wonderful stay at the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge. The events organizer was brilliant, new her story and explained everything in detail. All our activities went according to plan,on time and super organized.
Easy access to the town, a mini bus service every hour, all for free.
The staff went out of the way to accomodate our requests, even organized our own private cooler box filled with ice and drinks for the evening game drive!
Whilst sitting on the deck, overlooking the great expance of beauty, we overheard guests from a neighbouring hotel saying they should have rather booked at the Victoria Fall Safari Lodge, must better place they said. So, what more can one say?
I could not have emagined anything better. I can recommend this venue to anybody thinking about a trip to Vic Falls.
Oh and Clarence the bar man can make excellent cocktails, try the Pims cocktail with ginger ale, the best.

Room Tip: At the time they just finished a brand new section, ask for the Safari Club, more up market.

Hello Erika
You could not have imagined anything better than VFSL....and we could not have imagined anything better than your glowing review that does us proud. Thank you. We are fortunate to have an inspired team who take great pride in their roles. You hit on all the key points with such enthusiasm and we're delighted to have had such satisfied guests.

All 72 lodge rooms are being refurbished and re-styled in a major way and our new look will unfold by August this year. You are right that the new Club is even better, but that is our five-star butler-service 20-room wing that is also more expensive as it exudes sheer luxury.

We spent two nights at the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge. Our room was in a section that was at the far end, so we did not have a view of the watering hole, but it was on the end and very quiet. You do need to follow the directions and not leave your balcony door open and untended, as the vervet monkeys will make themselves at home. None got into our room, but they did hang out on the balcony with high hopes! The room was large and comfortable with both a bathtub and a shower. The breakfast was generous with many choices. We ate lunch and dinner there on both days, and it was very good. The warthog tenderloin was excellent. We liked being away from the center of town with more opportunities to see wildlife, but they also had a shuttle that ran most of the day. We would stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the watering hole.

Hello Alaska
A rare pleasure to have someone from your part of the world staying with us - hope you coped OK under the hot African sun! Thank you for your generous review, particularly your appreciation of the food for all three meals at our signature Makuwa-Kuwa restaurant overlooking the waterhole.

It is also good to know that our guests really appreciate the significant benefit of being "in the wilds" and a little away from the bustle of the town centre. We're the only larger lodge/hotel in the area where you can watch the wildlife from so many vantage points, including the bar, dining room, pool, sun terrace and boardroom. You know you are in harmony with nature, in the real Africa, and yet the centre is only five minutes away in our on-the-hour complimentary shuttle service.

Quite a good hotel with a panoramic view,i enjoyed the feeding of the vultures.I think you need to consider adding a gym to your facilities.I had diificulties getting to Elephant Hills to go and workout in their gym,i eventually had to call a taxi. The single bed was quite uncomfortable.I feel you should consider adding a mini fridge in the rooms

Hello Kingston
Thank you for staying with us, though it seems you are the really active type who needs a resort with a gym and other action facilities. Although we have often considered a small gym, with a view of the waterhole or the spray of the falls, we have yet to make a firm decision as we get so little call for such a facility from our international guests who mostly wish to remain in relax mode.

Although we offer an on-the-hour and much acclaimed free shuttle service this is only to the town centre and to those few hotels there. Unfortunately we could not stretch to becoming a transfer service to other out of town hotels as, again, the demand would probably equate to one seat a week. Therefore a taxi was definitely your best solution.

I'm sorry you found your bed uncomfortable - again, it is a very rare complaint and we've been open for 18 years and have undergone several upgrades in that time. However, we are readying for a total re-styling and refurbishment of all 72 rooms and that will include the beds for a total and dynamic new look and feel.

We went for a 4 night stay at the Safari lodge and had an amazing time, our room overlooked the watering hole which is an excellent view, and the air con much needed. We had a wonderful experience!!! The staff are all very friendly and helpful, the shuttle service were on time every time and the drivers very ready with info were needed. We had a massage at the Spa, and did river rafting and other activities as well. Though the food was a bit expensive as we kept converting the $ back to South African Rand we will definitely be going back to see the waterfall in the dry season and will certainly return to Safari Lodge.

Hello Sue
Words like "wonderful" and "amazing" really do us proud in your review - thank you. Yes, as you say, it's the overall experience that really counts and we're delighted you mentioned the superb location, the food, the shuttle and our friendly staff.

Every now and again we revitalise everything - both in refurbs and taking staff training and service levels to another level. In the next few months all 72 rooms are being dramatically re-styled. We also have a new globally experienced groups operations manager, Brian Gardiner, who lives at the Falls with his family and is on a crusade to inspire and motivate staff in ways that will increasingly impact very favourably on the guest experience.

May we commend you, and other researchers here, to the Africa Albida Tourism blog which will soon be covering a short and fascinating five-part series of what Brian and his team are all about and what exciting developments are in store.

We just returned from a Smarttours trip to South Africa. This was our final hotel-3 nights outside small town of Victoria Falls, in close proximity to falls themselves, and about an hour from Chobe National Park in neighboring Batswana, which we visited during our visit. Very nice setting. Most rooms have view of watering hole. Not an abundance of animals to view there since there has been plenty of rain and water is abundant. We did see kudu and pretty birds. Restaurant has view of watering hole as well. We ate dinner there all 3 night. Plentiful breakfast buffet served there. Wide variety of cold items and hot items ordered from menu-including made to.order omelets and eggs. I had benedict like dish with poached eggs and spinach. We saw several monkeys on the property up close and personal, including one who stole my banana right off the table our last morning. Turn down service in rooms included putting down mosquito netting around the bed-felt like we were in the movies! We were never bothered by mosquitoes but did discover several dead winged insects in bathroom last 2 mornings. Our last evening the room attendant gave us a small gift of 2 beaded animals. We were provided with 2 bottles of water each evening.

Hello Happy Traveler in New York
Thank you for your very positive review of our lodge and for the eye-catching headline that says it all - "Delightful." Yes, the odd monkey can become quite pesky and our guards are there to keep a wary eye, but there's often one that slips through the system - especially when there's fresh fruit on a table! Another little talking point about your experiences in Africa...and I'll bet you weren't quick enough to take the photo.

As you correctly observed fewer animals come to the water hole in the rainy season as there is plenty of water everywhere. But in the dry season (especially August-November) there is a dramatic change and guests will often see literally hundreds of buffalo and elephants at the waterhole while sipping a drink at sunset time.

Let's hope you return one day in this time frame and that you will consider twinning with our Ngoma Safari Lodge in Chobe - a top-luxury eight-suite lodge that in the dry season provides one of the greatest wildlife experiences on earth. Take a look at the web...just Google Ngoma Safari Lodge.

We checked in at the lodge on the 19th December 2012 and we were welcomed by the cheerful Zimbabwean smiles, a glass of cold drink and a wet hand towel to cool off from the heat of the day. The receptionist was quick to check us in and we were settled in within 10minutes of our arrival….wonderful surprise considering some of the negative reviews posted on trip advisor. Our stay was none other than phenomenal to say the least. We went to the Boma which is a restaurant within walking distance and prides itself of serving wild game meat (warthog, eland etc) on the buffet menu along with roast pig and a variety of other Zimbabwean foods. The drum-beat performance was interactive, entertaining and much needed after a delicious feast.
Although the rooms felt a tad-bit old they were very comfortable and provided a sense of “African adventure”. We had a suite with a great view of the watering hole (I think all the rooms have a fairly decent view of it). It had an ensuite bedroom upstairs and a lounging room downstairs. The monkeys were not as problematic..phew thank God. Makuwa Kuwa restaurant served mouth-watering meals, I ordered a pumba dinner on the first night which comprised of warthog and veggies, can’t remember the rest…., the wife ordered crocodile curry… very pleasant.
We did not have any significant internet access issues despite the less than encouraging reviews posted. All in all the stay was a pleasurable 5 days; however the only minor complaint we have was a misunderstanding regarding the massage bill. It was charged to another room, and unfortunately we didn’t realize it on the day we checked out. Wiring that money is an inconvenience, but we were pleased with the massage service and will find a way to pay what we owe. Moral of the story: check your bills on check out and make sure all activities and meals have been applied correctly.
No Fitness center in the complex but VFSL clients can go to the Elephant hills. I do not recommend it as the facility is below standard.

Room Tip: Recommend the suites, very spacious. I think all rooms have a decent view of the watering hole.

Hello to you in Nevada
Thank you for your very positive review that we believe paints such an accurate picture of the famous Zimbabwean friendliness, the quality and unique experience of our restaurants and the general enjoyable ambiance and vistas of the lodge.

We're delighted you were not swayed by any other comments but decided to try it for yourself - a "phenomenal stay" says it all and we are very happy to have pleased you and your family.

Yes, we agree, the rooms are in need of reviitalising and we are pleased to tell you that there will be a total refurbishment of all 72 rooms this year. We restyled all public areas last year and have now budgeted completing the exercise with the revamp of all rooms.

Wonderful hotel. The food, service and location on a bluff - overlooking a waterhole for elephants etc - couldn't be better. Just spent 3 days there after a Sabi Sands safari and should have stayed a day or two more.

Room Tip: don't know if they have a fitness room....didn't have time for spa services....too much othe...
