“Incredible staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2012

It's not as close to the Falls or as elegant as the Victoria Falls Hotel, but this is still a great place to stay. The rooms are very comfortable and the hotel staff is wonderfully friendly and attentive. There's a free shuttle bus that takes you close to town and the Falls (maybe a 10-minute ride).

We stayed 2 nights in the hotel, and after a week in the bush it was the perfect recovery. Spacious rooms, nice outside pool area, internet available in most locations (although not always working), a fitness that is spartan, nice restaurant with wonderful buffet breakfast. Walking around the grounds you can run into many different animals - the town of Vic Falls is also very pleasant, and felt very safe all along, even on the huge attractive (price wise) crafts market.

I recently attended a business conference at Elephant Hills Resort. I had not been to Zimbabwe before, so did not know what to expect. The experience was delightful. My room was on par with a good quality hotel in the USA with a lovely view of the grounds and golf course, the spray of the falls and the Zambezi river in the back ground. The internet worked very well by African standards, service was always polite and accomodating. The staff arranged several day trips including a wonderful day at nearby Chobe Park in Botswana, helicopter and walking tours of the falls and a sunset river cruise. The restaurant on the premises was adequate and there are several other options a short cab-ride away. A jog on the golf-course in the early morning was much like a walking safari, resident warthogs, impala, monkeys and many birds keeping me company. June was a bit cool for using the pool, but the one time I did, I was pleased that it allowed for a good workout with lap-swimming potential.

Room Tip: Rooms on upper floors have a better view of sunrise and the river/falls

We stayed at Elephant Hills June 17, 18 & 19, 2012, and would definitely do it again!

THE question to consider is whether you want to stay near the center of town or outside the center. Elephant Hills is the latter. We walked through Ilala Lodge, Victoria Falls Hotel, and Kingdom Hotel. All appear to be great places to stay. And all are within walking distance to THE Falls, THE Bridge, and THE small center of town (smaller than expected -- only spent less than 4 hours to check out grocery store; one book store, 4-5 clothing stores, several curio shops, talk with helpful staff at information center (good advice but don't expect maps, etc.) We skipped the outdoor market of dozens of stands -- most with basically the same thing -- and indoor "mall". We weren't seeking carved hippos, stone elephants, wooden giraffes, etc.

A downside to the center of town is you will continuously be approached by "vendors". THE best thing to do is to hold up your hand as in "Stop" and DO NOT respond to the questions of "Hello"; "Where are you from"; etc. Remember -- DO NOT respond to questions, ESPECIALLY do not say you are from the U.S.A. Zimbabwe uses U.S. dollars and South African coins. If you say U.S.A. they will stay after you...

There is a shuttle four times a day to-and-from Elephant Hills to the center of town. It was right on time each day. Picks up at the hotel's front door. You can also get a taxi for $7 one-way for two people.

Elephant Hills has an absolutely wonderful swimming pool; fabulouis complete hot breakfasts; friendly service; very clean; you can walk around the 18-hole golf course as long as you use common sense -- watch your step for dung; avoid approaching impalas, warthogs, monkeys... Usually a staff member will offer to walk with you (they do appreciate a $1-2 tip for keeping you safe but it isn't necessary).

The posted signs on each room's sliding doors to beware of baboons should be taken seriously. (You will find baboons in the center of Victoria Falls also). We watched monkeys systematically and routinely go from balcony-to-balcony and floor-to-floor checking for "goodies". One couple felt threated by a teeth-baring monkey that appeared when they were drinking a beer one early afternoon. They retreated into their room and watched the monkey check to see if they had left behind anything good... Best advice is NOT to eat on balcony or even when walking around the grounds.

It takes a bit to navigate between rooms and the front lobby, restaurant, etc. But we enjoyed the extra steps. There is free wireless available. We used the internet in the 6th Floor Business Centre for $1 for 10 minutes. Worked very well.

A very comfortable hotel that caters mostly for the business/conference type traveler.Good choice for a holiday hotel though as the activities cater for everyone from the playground for the kids to the large swimming pool, the spa, squash courts and golf course.

My hubby and I stayed here for 4 nights at the Elephant Hills resort and it was great
Staff were very friendly, helpfull and the hotel was clean
We had great views of the Zambezi River, and the mist of the Falls.
We played golf the one day and the course is well maintained,.We hired the golf clubs at $20 for 18 holes and $20 for golf fees.
Breakfast was very good like most 4 star hotels
However the suppers were ok.Because the hotel was quiet there were no supper buffets offered
Their veg soup was good.
We were also very surprized to receive a gift from the hotel management, a his and her golf T shirts.
There was a shuttle bus which dropped you off close to the Falls and it was free .This is a big plus
In general we had a great stay and would recommend it again

Please remember that things are pricey because they work in US dollars.

Room Tip: Choose the golf course views as you can see game on the course aswell

Although a little out of town, there is a hotel shuttle that runs a couple of times a day. Food and service was excellent. Rooms tidy with all the mod cons you need. Hairdresser and beauty therapists on site if you need some pampering at the end of your holiday!
