“It is about luxury tenting!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2013

The accomodations are ultra private and ultra luxury and each room overlooks the game park, the Zanbesi River gorge. We got up early to a dawn walk in the park with Andrew the armed guard, Sylvester the human habituated cheetah and his handlers. We saw up close what all we could see from our room but were in the midst of the wildlife on our walking safari. We also saw a perspective on the River Gorge that is seen in no other way. The food is not up to standard and on of us had a lactose intolerance. The kitchen could only subtract from the meal and could not fill in with other non dairy food making my wife very hungrey after 2 days (and she is thin to begin with).

Room Tip: All 8 are extremely private (in fact after dark you have to call for a guard to accompany you the co...

If you want to be treated as someone very special this is the place to go. The rooms are amazing and very private. I loved the outdoor shower and personal plunge pool. Laundry was done efficiently at no charge and all the staff were wonderful. If I ever need a second honeymoon this is the place for me

From the moment we arrived at the Elephant Camp everything met our expectations. Accommodation was luxurious and private, with our deck looking out across to Victoria Falls, where the spray from the falls was visible. The manager Johnathan, and the staff team were very personable and accommodating, being very efficient, whilst having a good sense of humour. The communal living room and dining areas were comfortable and spacious and guests could find their own space, or gather for a chat . The Elephant camp and interaction with elephants was relaxedt, and Sylvester the ambassador cheetah and his handler were up close and personal.Food was plentiful and tasty, served with a smile. The shuttle service into the township of Victoria falls was a bonus. All in all fabulous!
We had a fabulous experience here, and would highly recommend it

This camp is a great choice if you want the African bush but also the convenient location to Victoria Falls town. The camp runs shuttles to and from town so you can shop, visit the Falls, check out the historical Victoria Falls Hotel (I suggest you have high tea and relax between activities there!). All are close walking distance to the shopping district of this tiny town.

Elephant Camp has gorgeous tents - beyond your wildest expectations, each with its own deck and plunge pool, living room, dressing area, bedroom area and private bathroom, plus an outdoor shower, all with a widespread view of African bush and gorge. Some of the tents even view the distant 'smoke that thunders' generated by Victoria Falls, a world wonder.

Activities include optional walk ($50 donation required) with Sylvester, the cheetah, who will capture your heart upon encounter. On our 2 hour walk, Sylvester took off on his own hunt which was fascinating to watch. He kept within hearing distance of his handler and returned when beckoned. You learn about the needs and behavior of cheetahs and see some interesting sights on the walk. You do have an armed ranger with you, and you feel safe as you can see that they recognize the 'mood and behavior' of the local wildlife. We encountered Cape Buffalo on our walk, followed our rangers' instructions on how and where to walk, and all went well.

Another activity is to go on an elephant safari. One of our group did that and loved her experience.

The camp staff is gracious and friendly, and helpful in all regards. They were flexible in meeting our needs for shopping, meeting us as we requested rather than making us wait on a fixed drop-off/pick-up schedule. That way we could maximize our time at the camp, which you will definitely want to do! The bar is a wonderful gathering place and they make awesome gin & tonics! I have stayed in other lodges in town, but prefer Elephant Camp by far for its ambiance and location.

Room Tip: All rooms are great - ask for room closer to main tent if you have trouble walking on uneven ground...

From flights, pick up and transfer, activities and accommodations, our experience with Wild Horizons and the Elephant Camp was all we expected and more. Jonathan and staff made us feel like royalty. Peaceful, calming view from the main tent and our beautiful tent of Victoria Falls and landscape. Our time with Sylvester, feeding the elephants and the elephant safari was incredible and Victoria Falls is breath-taking! Our only regret was that we couldn't stay longer. Thank you to Jonathan and everyone at the camp for making this a trip we will never forget.

Patricia, Tim and I just arrived back in Vancouver BC. We had the privilege and I mean privilege of staying at the Elephant Camp for four nights after a 10 day mobile safari. We arrived dusty and dirty but still full of love and enthusiam for southern Africa. We were greeted by the ever present and wonderful Jonathan, the best host I have ever experienced. We were treated like royalty, the food was tremendous as was the service and the hospitality. Actually there are not enough words to describe the experience. The rooms are exquisite and please if you go, take advantage of the outside shower. We did ever day and it was wonderful.

Make sure you try and walk with Sylvester the Cheetah. It is such an educational experience as well as taking in the beautiful of the gorge, Ed, Lewis, Roger and Gift are extraordinary, particularly when Sylvester decides to start stalking the buffalo or baboon who take offence. I could have stayed out for hours on the gorge just watching the water and Sylvester. As well this is one of the few opportunities you get to walk the bush in African in the company of this knowledgeable staff.

I would highly, highly recommend this property. We have just arrived home today to Vancouver, B.C. Canada and I am already missing Johanthan and his wonderful 2IC, Bernie.

Again thank you to Jonathan, Bernie, Ed, Lewis, Gif, Roger and all the absolutely wonderful staffr at the Camp. It will be hard to top the overall southern Africa Experience and our time at the Elephant Camp.

Do yourself an incredible favour.....stay at the Elephant Camp.

Room Tip: All the tents are wonderful

Thank you so much for your wonderful review. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay with us at The Elephant Camp. The Batoka Gorge and the turbulent Zambezi River below offers such a special setting.... with Sylvester at ones side I very much agree with your comments that hours could be spent just taking in everything! We do hope to welcome you back again soon. Warm regards from The Elephant Camp Team.

This is a luxurious Camp 15 min away from Victoria Falls. The rooms and service are 5 star! I didn't expect to find such a beautiful, big and confortable room in a Camp. The view from the room is just amazing. I bought a package in the website of Wold Horizons and I got a really good deal for three nights in Imbabala Zambezi Safari Lodge (which is much simpler, but it is a wonderful place as well) and 1 night in The Elephant Camp. I wish I have booked an extra night here. This is a gem!
The only downside was diner. The food was not good. (Imbabala provided us with a simpler but much more interesting food and personal experience). Besides that, everything was excellent. We took the walking tour with the cheetah. It was one of the best things we did in our trip. The landscape was beautiful!!!! It is US$50 for a 2 hour walk and I guess that is the reason why few people do it. But I highly recommend it!
If you are concerned about the distance from the Victoria Falls town and park, don't worry! They have complimentary shuttles to take and pick up their guests. And it is just a 10 or 15 minutes drive.

Thank you for your comments and it was a delight to have you stay with us, I apologise that the dinner was not to your liking, as we pride ourselves on our food. I have had a meeting with my chefs to rectify and change the dishes on offer that night. We do hope to see you again soon. Kindest regards from the Falls, Jonathan
