“Disappointing stay, maybe a 3 star”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2012

Good: Staff Friendly (even though you spot hear about their own sadness and disillusionment with the place) ; Game Drive guy very knowledgeable, Lovely setting in the environment – dam lovely, game drives nice

Negative:
- The place does not meet expectations – it is neither 4 or 5 star (maybe 3 star?)
- The rooms: linen is very outdated and looks dirty (the blanket in the room led to both my husband and I being itchy – perhaps a wash or checking it out would help)
- The towels in the room are dirty and outdated (discoloured, thin and old)
- The net on the bed in our room has stains that almost look like dry blood (as well as holes), the curtains in room have holes
- Appreciate we are in nature but dead spiders which were there in room on check in are still there on check out
- I was not even comfortable to wipe my face with towels provided – it would cost the lodge one couple staying a weekend to replace towels in the bedrooms of whole lodge (but not they do not seem to care about this as long as they get their $300 a night rate)
- The pool towels are equally disgusting
- The food is terrible – breakfast is very poor. Food was always cold. The dry eggs sitting in the chuffing pots at breakfast was inedible. The food was appalling in summary. Very blend
- The supper was always cold as well. The menu need to be revisited
- The beds are old and hard – the pillows are not matching to what is promised. A firm or alteast reasonably comfortable pillow would make one’s stay so much better
- In the absence of electricity and using the generator the Lodge has 'lights out' at 10:30pm and you can't read a book!

Having stayed in a number of places in Zimbabwe: Leopard Rock, Troutbeck Inn, Stanley, Miekels Hotel, Bronte this (Pamuzinda) was undoubtedly the worst place in terms of value for money and overall experience. The place, with all due respect, is riding on the scenery to attract people but cares less about their comfort and experience. It almost leads one to think that owners are more focused on short term gain than long term sustainability of such gains. At $300 a night for couple the above comments should not be part of a guest’s feedback.

I do wish the other guests who were as disgruntled during our stay could also share their experiences. Maybe that will drive the Lodge to consider what they are offering the guests.

I was fortunate enough to visit Pamuzinda and her sister lodge Chengeta in March. The place is absolutely beautiful, the activities really special and the staff; efficient, friendly and professional all at once. I would highly recommend this place to anyone wanting to relax and enjoy the best of Africa.

On a whim (and a casual mention in the local newspaper) we decided to spend a weekend at Pamuzinda. Could not have been happier. The drive from Harare was about an hour and the property was very easy to find. It was quite a gem. Jeffrey the giraffe greeted us as we pull up to the driveway for the check in; quite a playful and gentle fella. It was a hit from the start with our boys. Also really enjoyed elephant encounter, game drive, and pontoon boat ride/fishing on the Selous River. Although the game drive vehicle suffered two flat tires, our guide Canaan was in good spirits and summoned help immediately; the group took advantage of the breaks and had impromptu sundowner in the wild. The lodge manager decided to give us free activities the following day because of the 'inconvenience.' Yay! Beautiful surrounding - definitely would recommend the Garden Suite with the outdoor lounging area and shower. Food was excellent. Service impeccable. We will definitely return for a longer stay and recommend to friends. Although a bit pricey for Harare standards, still believe it was well worth it.

We had an absolutely wonderful experience here. The hotel itself is lovely, very nicely decorated and with large, spacious main areas. Even more impressive were the staff, who were friendly, attentive and welcoming. Rooms were relatively basic but clean and very good mosquito nets keep out the creepy crawlies. Food was of a consistently high standard and the wine list is good. Hugging Spike the warthog was definitely a highlight, matched equally by barman Sugar’s smile and warmth. For us, a perfect introduction to Zim!

The setting is nice but we had expected the standards to be up to other lodges we have stayed at. The local staff are very friendly but the accomodation is not up to what one could expect in such a lodge. There also does not seem to be a hands off approach to the wildlife. The wildlife are too familiar with humans and hence not seen in their natural state - something there is an abundance of in Africa. Okay for a brief "commercial" experience of Zimbabwe outside the cities.

Fantastic holiday resort for the entire family. We visited Pamuzinda end of June for 4 days (until early July). The nights were chilly, however there were hot water bottles in the beds, meaning we always came to a nice and warm bed. The cold also kept the mosquitoes away, so there were ZERO mosquitoes then.

We were there 2 adults and 2 children (aged 2 and 7) and they both really enjoyed it. There was a somewhat "tame" Giraffe called Geoffrey and an Ostrich called Oscar - Ozzie. Geofrey was so curious that every time he saw us leaving our chalets, he just had to follow us. We had to keep our distance as they warned that it might not be entirely safe. Anyway, we all at one point managed to touch his rough skin in the presence of one of the workers.

My husband and I went for a lion walk - which was also beautiful. We went for a game drive, and boat trip (Sun downer) but there is not much game to see there really.

The workers are so friendly and most of the food served was super delicious; ranging from fresh properly prepared brim fish to impala stew etc.

We arrived there on my sisters' birthday (twins) who also joined there. So I asked if they could make a surprise dessert for them (cake) after dinner and they did. I requested for this way too late - 2 hours before dinner and they managed to put ingredients together and came up with a beautiful cake. On their own initiative, they put some drummers together danced their way to table our table with the cake: True high class service ;-)

This was an unforgetable experience for us and is certainly recommended to anyone out for a nice getaway at a secluded place in Zimbabwe for the entire family.
