Recently stayed here for a conference also hosted by the hotel. Was well looked after and well fed. Beef sausages at breakfast was particularly good. Hotel staff were very helpful when my planned lift to the airport did not come.

Only fault was that wifi did not work in the rooms despite trying 3 rooms. The swimming pool was a bit on the cool side too, but I am used to that coming from UK

I was really confused with the fact that this hotel was rated 5 stars, some may compare this to standards of hotels in Africa but I am sorry! There are far better places and five stars is an over-statement of this hotel.
Room service takes forever to come, assuming the right meal choice was served.
Staff are friendly, with the exception of check-out, which took too long and the guy sitting for checkout seemed to have slept on the wrong side of the bed.
The hote facilities, the gym for example is as -many of the other reviewers have stated- still stuck somewhere in the 1980's, and probably was not touched since then.
I had a table in my room with a broken leg, so if you place anything on the table it will tilt and fall, and when I informed the front desk; they said that they were "aware of that" but no apology was even given.
If you wish to pay for a 5 star experience! you may probably want to rent your own chef, your own cleaning staff, a driver and rent yourself a villa somewhere.
My employer chose this place, but if it was me? I would leave as soon as I walked in.

this hotel was good because it had everything we needed and the room service was great as my daughter used to order it. we went during christmas and we were surprised that they decoreted the lobby festively which was nice, it being our first christmas from home. we went to this hotel in a very large group and they gave us rooms near our family which was appreciated. the pool was average not that we used it much. the only bad thing was the key cards, they would always have to be reswiped at least once a day. also its quite a big hotel.

Room Tip: ask for the higher level rooms.

I stayed here for a conference (held in the hotel) and therefore had no choice of where to stay in Harare. I had fairly low expectations after reading reviews, most of which are pretty accurate. The lobby area is beautiful, but the rooms are very "dingy" and I agree completely with the prior reviewer who said they look like they are stuck in the 70s. Also, some rooms are definitely nicer than others, as my room was dark and depressing, while my colleague's room looked like his was updated more recently (perhaps in the 80s?). The mattress was lumpy and uncomfortable. There were only a few channels on the TV. The shower stall is tiny and old, but the bathroom is otherwise a good size. The one good point about the room itself was that it was very clean.

The service at the restaurant, however, was incredible. Everyone working there was incredibly friendly and helpful, making the overall experience quite pleasant.

Room Tip: Ask for an updated room (I think the higher floors are more updated)

When in Harare, maybe there is not many choices for a hotel. Rainbow Towers gives you a good impression from outside, with nice gardens and a well kept environment. The lobby is still nice and comfortable. However, the good impression diminish when you approach the room, you start feeling like time stopped somewhere in the 70's and the rooms were not refurbished since then. Although mostly clean and big, rooms could be more comfortable. The air conditioner wasn't excellent but it worked, tv wasn't my first entertaining centre, and bathroom wasn't appropiate (I can't describe the mixed up feelings when I had to use it, even if it was clean). The swimming pool was ok and the room service was average in options (I had to change my meal 3 times as the first 2 options were not available from the menu) but good in quality. The best thing I can say from this hotel, is that staff has a genuine smile for everything they do for you, sometimes they stop you in the middle of the corridor or in the swimming pool just to chat with you. Be patient when doing your check out, as it can take more than 30 minutes, and check if the bill is yours before you pay!
