“Overwhelmingly beautiful mosaics”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2013

This museum has one of the best collections of Roman mosaics in the world. If you go to museums in Europe, many of those mosaics are the overflow from Tunisia. Don't miss.

“Make yourself visit this place even if you don't feel like it..trust me its worth the effort !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2013

the wealth of Roman and early Christian Mosaics on display here is simply incredible and the breathtaking quality of the displays are proof of the fact ,if proof were needed, that the Romans surrounded themselves wherever possible with Art and evocative imagery.Wandering around I was alarmed to discover that my mouth had fallen open in wonder and that I was absentmindedly dribbling when looking at the stunning mosaics of marine cornucopia ( only kidding but they are so well executed you could identify many of the fish ,Captains daughters etc).On the face of it many folks probably swerve this as a place to visit thinking to themselves "who wants to go and look at old tiles when they could be lying by a pool ?" Well those neanderthals have no idea what they are missing and would do well to invest in just one hour of sublime Roman Art in their otherwise mediocre lives.A bit harsh perhaps ? but then again I have a Diploma in Harshness. Just go and you will be amazed..trust me ~you will be glad you did. Just one last thought how come the Romans were so damned clever and talented when the rest of us were living in mud huts and painting our naked bodies blue to keep out the cold ?? Looking around here makes you wonder what happened to their talent and understand why what followed the collapse of their Empire is known as the Dark Ages !

“Magnificent Mosaics!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

Thank heavens for museums like the Bardo. This Roman artistic legacy is magnificent in it's content and number. The scenes from everyday Roman life to their Gods and Deities will enthrall any student of Ancient history. These mosaics are displayed on the floor and also on the walls. While not originally made for wall display, they do present well and are easy to read.
The original museum was once the Beylical Palace and it has been extended and inproved with the help of loans from the world bank, and is money well invested.
Other exhibits touch on Punic,Greek, Islamic and there is a shipwreck/salvage display of Ancient Greek goods found off the Tunisian coast which is fascinating.
This is a world class Mosaics Museum second to none.
There is a marketing opportunity for a complete tourist shop on site. Books, maps, etc could bring in more tourist dollars.
