“Fresh fruit- tangerines & oranges. That's about it!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2014

The hotel is located down town Tunis. The only thing that I liked about it was the cart of tangerines and oranges for breakfast and lunch. I prolly had about 10 kgs of those. The pancakes/crepes for breakfast were okay as well. The lunch buffet selection- not that good at all. I stayed there for 4 days and 4 nights, but by the second day I could hardly eat the lunch. Then the room next to mine always had a tonne of teenagers making noise. Had to call reception to come shut them down. And for a 5 star hotel, they had no gym. That was a shock too.

Without doubt this is the worst hotel that I have ever stayed at in Africa. Previously, I have always stayed at the Sheraton in Tunis and I thought that was poor, however, the Africa surpasses them all. It is centrally situated in Tunis. The security is pathetic and heavens knows what the suited attendants do apart from talk to each other and passers by. The check-in process was atrocious with staff rude and incompetent more interested in talking to others than attending to guests. I was supposed to have been allocated an executive which if true was awful and heaven knows what the standard rooms were like. I suspect the same but less expensive. Beds were hard and uncomfortable. The room furnishings were old. The bathroom was a decent size but very simple with limited products provided. The shower head was broken and sprayed water everywhere and past the ubiquitous shower curtain. The restaurants were horrible as was the food with hopeless and rude staff. One evening the limited choice of buffet displayed an abundance of mini lamb burgers and behold hey turned up for breakfast the next day. Staff cleared tables completely while you were getting another course from the buffet. The food was dry and of poor quality. The restaurant on the 5th floor was poor with useless waiters who were more interested in demanding tips that providing a good service. Check out was hopeless and no connection could be established to the credit card company and therefore I had to pay cash. My recommendation is just don't stay there!

If you are looking for a newly built chain hotel, look elsewhere. It is a good hotel with excellent food, kind workers, and really great housekeeping services. It is kept very clean, although not particularly modern. There are two restaurants on site (great food), and a bar in the lobby.

I stayed here for almost a week and had great comfort. It was a 10 minutes walk to the souk.

Would stay there again anytime! :)

Central location and friendly staff. I had a room on the 10th floor which provided a great view of the city. Room was clean but some inventory seemed old and a little bit worn out (tv, windows...). Breakfast was alright but not perfect.I enjoyed my stay and I would also recommend the hotel's restaurant.

We stayed during Christmas period.
The hotel is closed to old town and there were many restaurants around the hotel. It was very convenient.
The room was on 15th floor and the view was clear.
However, I had issues on the bath room. The hose of shower was broken and much water was splashed out from the side of hose and the floor got wet. The engineer replaced the hose to the new one but water pressure from the shower outlet was still weak and it had been inconvenient for four nights.
Also, because there were not the door tag saying "Do not disturb", I needed to talk with cleaners every 11am to ask them to come back again, although we wanted to spend relaxed until noon time. On the 4th day, oppositely, the cleaner forgot to clean my room when we came back to room at 5pm.
Furthermore, the hotel staff came into the room to check the drinks in the refrigerator even when I was still in under-wear and I was uncomfortable for this non-customer-oriented service attitude.
This hotel is very convenient but the service level was not in five star.

The Hotel Africa in central Tunis was a disappointment but the only way I could see ANYONE voting this as 5 star or thinking it is 5 star is because they have never stayed in one before.

Comparatively to the rest of Tunis' hotels etc... it's ok but it's like it is stuck in the 70s/80s and nothing has been updated. The bedding is old and dated and the carpets stained.

The 'minibar' was a regular fridge (that wasn't working) and empty. There was now refreshed toiletries and the air conditioning wasn't properly working either.

The breakfast and dinner was pretty terrible. It is a 'buffet' but it more resembles a school canteen and the food is sub par.

I have only given it an average because the staff were genuinely lovely and tried their best.

I stayed during a business trip, the room was nice and had an amazing view for the city from the top floors. despite that i didn't like the breakfast it doesn't have any variety for foreigners and also the internet charges per day is very expensive i had to walk and cross the street to stay at a cafe to get access to WIFI. But i like that the hotel location was in the center where you can walk to the cafes or take public transportation but i think they should work on enhancing the hotel facilities and the staff to be more friendly with the guests.
