Problem at the checkin ,no available rooms before 3h00PM, " Sorry but the rooms still dirty !"thats the only answer from the front desk !,The internet is so expensive 10 euros!
But the staff in the restaurant is so serviable, the food was ok ,the room after was ok , spacious, and cleaned ,the staff was quiet friendly , the guest relations was so professional and very quick .
I was happy with the hotel location , whatever you want is arround you and the security agents are so helpful .
Just be careful from the taxi drivers !!they can make you pay more than 45 euros for a distance of 10 kilometers , and either less !

I actually stayed here more than a year ago, well before the civil unrest and government change in Tunisia. But I wanted to review this place for the location and convenience it offers bang in the center of Tunis on Habib Bourguiba, which is the main street of the city.

The most luring feature about Hotel Africa is it's location (period). It's not a bad place, but not meriting the 5star rating it carries and the stay, service, staff attitude is all average. But in a country where few speak English and you don't know who you can and can't trust, Hotel Africa offers a safe place to stay, decent local and continental cuisine in room service and room was not bad at all... so if you are the kind who likes to stay close to all the action and not not spend your evenings sitting in your room watching television after a day of work, then you can't find a more convenient place to stay. I was there for a week on business.

There are numerous restos and shops, the medina, etc all in walking distance from Hotel Africa which for me was a big plus.

Room Tip: take a room facing Habib Bourguiba... makes for a nice view.

After walking in and quoted one extortionate price, I sat in the lobby and booked by Internet with booking.com, a lot less than 1/2 price, the leather settees are dirty and ready for replacing, didn't like the idea of smokers sitting just anywhere, but that's Tunisia I suppose. We had a drink in the bar and I saw the barman putting ice in drinks with his hands, cutting cheese up for bar snacks, without washing his hands first. The room was ok I suppose, nothing luxurious, bathroom ok. A/C not working so had to open window, which didn't make much difference. Had an ok sleep bed comfortable. The secure carpark we were promised was behind the hotel, the street in front was blocked off for some reason so we had to carry our luggage all the way around ourselves, there was an attendant on all night to watch the cars. We went out to look for a restaurant, one of the lobby staff came with us, which was good of him, there was nowhere clean enough to eat so went back to the hotel and ordered room service, which was ok, nothing special. Probably wouldn't stay here again unless I had to.

Dear Guest,

We apologize greatly for the inconvenience you had during your stay.

Our first stay at this hotel was in 2005 and it was really very nice. My husband went once more in 2006 and felt the same service lacked but we went again for five nights October 3-8, 2011.
It was horrible. The bed was worn and the mattress thin and hard. The shower curtain was full of black mold at the bottom. Our room was changed. Everything I just mentioned was identical except for a new shower curtain straight from the package.
Breakfast was mostly pastry and a few other items. Slim pickings.
Here is the way the hotel handled our stay. They sent a survey which we answered honestly. We received an email which was for lack of a better phrase ..sorry you didn't enjoy your stay with us, come again.

Room Tip: Stay from this hotel.

I had a good stay. Bed was nice and hard, Isolation was good. Hotel definitly deseved its 5* 20 years ago. Hotel has been renovated but not modernised, meaning the carpet is new and clean but all facilities are still old style. Beautiful view on Tunis! (Stayed on the 20th floor).

Breakfast ist not up to standard. Lemonade instead of fresh juice. Again as in the 80's the decor is nice and the food is well presented. To my opinion they spend more time on the presentation then on quality.

Would have been nice to have a outside terace of a swimming pool on the roof.
Would recommend this hotel as I did not find anything better in the city center. Max reasonable price should be 100€. I do not think it is worth paying more.

Perfect location, easy walking distance from all key town centre waypoints. It is not a holiday hotel, though, so do not expect a swimming pool, spa or impressive gym, otherwise you might be disappointed. Breakfast buffet on par with most business class hotels: no particular gourmet extra points, but a good spread with a nice variety. Coming from Europe I found that fruit in Tunisia are particularly tasty. Lunch buffet a little uninspired, but admittedly it is in the nature of hotel buffet lunches. Overall a good stay. The staff was particularly friendly and helpful in making reservations for restaurants outside, arranging for a (external shop-bought) bottle of champagne to be delivered to the room at a specific time with flowers, and generally very helpful.
