“Good for Smokers”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 7, 2013

I stayed here for 10 days on business in December. The hotel is about 20 minutes from the downtown area, in a quiet, business neighborhood. I had a sea view room with a balcony and my rate included breakfast. The air conditioning in my room was not working and could not be turned on or fixed so the room was stuffy at night when the sliding doors were closed. I finally got a big, rusty fan delivered to the room and used that to move the air around a bit. I'm not sure whether this was a problem in just my room or all the rooms. The room was average size and not very modern. The bed was comfortable and the housekeeping staff did a very good job cleaning. The best thing about the hotel was the staff, who were very pleasant and tried to be helpful and the great breakfast. There was no smoking in the dining room but lots of smoking in the alcohol-free lobby bar/cafe. In fact, the hotel was so smokey that it was hard to get away from it. I had several meals in neighborhood restaurants and they were all pretty good. No wine or alcoholic drinks served anywhere within walking distance of this hotel. Next time I would stay closer to downtown, in a more interesting area.

Room Tip: Definitely get a room on the water side of the hotel. Ask for non-smoking and it might be.

Overall a good hotel, close to the airport, calm and peaceful neighbourhood (near Embassies). The bed was really comfortable, had a good night's sleep. Located on the breakwater, so if you get a lake facing room (at a surcharge), its great.

The buffet breakfast was good with a good variery and freshly squeezed juices. Room service menu was also reasonable with good sized portions. Free wifi only connects to google and emails. For social networking (facebook, whatsapp etc) you need to subsribe to the paid internet service (TND 15 per 24 hours).

On the down side, huge language barrier if you dont talk Arabic or French. The staff speak broken Englsh, especially the housekeeping, laundy and room service staff. They also dotn provide an iron, so you are either forced to use their in-house laundry for ironing or take your own from home.

The Gym was not motivating enough (about 6-7 equipments in a room) and the steam room wasnt working during my stay. The sauna was too bright during the daytime (sunlight coming in)!

On the whole, the hotel was good, safe and enjoys excellent views.

Room Tip: Lake facing rooms at a surcharge

Location is nice, the view from the sea side cafe and the restaurant is amazing, it is close to the airport and rooms are nice and clean.

It is a dry hotel but for me this is actually a good thing.

Last time I had a street view room, this time a superior sea view room with breakfast, so next time I will also rate the breakfast.

Room Tip: Always go for sea view if available

This hotel is very convenient if you are in Tunis for business, want to have meetings with local partners located in the new business center and are not there for tourism or to have fun and relax (including by having a nice dinner or a glass of wine).

On the pro side, very close to airport. Rooms are confortable, Wifi is reliable (but the high speed that you pay for is a bugger as it ask you to re enter your 20 digit access code every hour), guest service is adequate, ASK for a room with a view on the lake (not that more expensive but huge difference on the ambiance), nice breakfast facing the lake (even if the menu never vary a dish so after a week).

On the con side, it is far from the Medina, from all the touristic attraction, restauration offer and shopping around are inexistent, the room are a bit oudated (especially the bathroom where the shower is in the bath like in the 80's), of course the whole district is totally dry (ie no alcohol), the restaurant has no ambiance at all.

So for Tunis, it is generally ok with even north american standard as a 4 stars. But a real 5 star would be for example the newly renovated Movenpick, that has most of the qualities of the Concorde but almost none of the defects (except it has a less convenient location for pure business trips).

Room Tip: Ask for a view on the Lake!

I stayed here for business and would not recommend the hotel for a private vacation. Even though it's beautiful, rooms are spacious, the view from the breakfast area terrace overlooking the lake cannot be beaten, it's not located in a central area or close to any interesting sites.
Wifi goes on and off, not really stable at all.
Ask for a room away from the street as those can be noisy.
Doormen are really helpful in finding a cab and provide you with a ticket you can use in case of taxi problems. Helpful.

First of all forget your other Concorde experiences, although hotel is less than 10 years old, carpets, furniture is really old, some rooms stink. Because of its location, I always stay there, it is always fully book, therefore they don't care. Menu and open buffet is same every each day. Having a coffee at deck is one of the best in Tunis. Service is too slow but friendly.

The hotel is OK, but you feel that its great days are gone (esp., when you see the stained carpet)... I keep wondering how hotels are given the number of start really - this is not more than 4 stars...
Meeting rooms are OK, you smell cigarettes around in the lobby. There is a nice view to the lake and you are really close to the airport.
