An excellent location a few steps from the medina and the central Avenue Habib Bourguiba. Cost/value is excellent. I usually stay in a more upscale business hotel when I'm in Tunis, and the only things the Hotel de France doesn't give you that the one at more than twice the price does is a bathtub (though there's a shower) and television. Staff is very friendly and cooperative. But rooms vary, so try to get one with a small balcony that overlooks the charming central courtyard. Breakfast is Continental and adequate. Very good coffee.

We stayed here for 4 nights, arriving on the second day of Eid al-Adha and not having booked anything. The hotel was extremely accommodating, providing us with food and water at a low cost as all the supermarkets were closed. A room was made ready for us immediately, and was spotless. Breakfast was not included (for a few extra dinars it could be eaten in the dining room downstairs), but this wasn't a problem as the hotel is located right next to a fantastic restaurant and also less than 100 metres from the Medina. Beds were comfortable and bathrooms were fine, shower was quite good and toilets were European-style. One word of warning, if your room has a little balcony over the courtyard, keep the windows closed as the trees tend to attract mosquitos which are annoying at 3am! There is a computer with internet in the lobby, which can be used for a very low fee. Upon departure, the friendly staff were happy to store bags after check-out til the evening, and even posted postcards for us. Overall a great experience, would definitely recommend and stay again!
