“Great, but isolated”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2012

Sbleita is impressive. All the way from Le Kef to Sbleita you´ll find a series of roman ruins, scattered in the Tunisian countryside. Sbleita was the biggest town. It´s hard to imagine what was this city, with temples, bridges, large baths, doing in the middle of nowhere. Yet, it is there. It was a surprise to me. There is not too much left, but the temples are well preserved and while walking around you can feel how wealthy this city was. It contrasts with the sorroundings. For the adventurous people or lovers of roman antiques, this will be an interesting experience. The only problem is roads are not very good in this region and there are no good hotels around. If you´re staying in Sousse, I supposed you could visit by car on a day trip. From Tunis or Hammamet, it´s too far. I drove all the way from Tunis, visited Sbeitla and slept in Tozeur, but this was far too exhausting. I suppose the best thing to do is to include Sbeitla on a car trip from Sousse to Tozeur (or vice-versa). Anyway, it´s worth the visit.

“Sbeitla A Roman City”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2009

Travel to Sbeitla is included in some of the two day trips via your hotel. But to see it at its best the hire a car with driver. The city is extensive with a large forum with the temples of Jupiter Juno and Minerva. There is a mosiac covered batisum bath plus another with fish deoration. There is another bath againh with fish decoration to the left of the path as you come into the site towards the main areas. There is a large cistern to serve the main bath complex and the towns water supply.A restored theatre. There is a small arena to the north of the city but it has not been opened to my knowlege.
There are a number of shops and a couple of cafes near to the site.
