“This is where it all began!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2013

What an amazing place to visit. To be where the Leakey's discovered the homo sapiens skull and to see the plaque indicating the location was really special. The views from above of the gorge large fabulous. Be sure to have someone ( we had a professor from Arusha) explain the importance of this discovery and the actual composition of the Gorge. The museum itself is interesting albeit a little neglected. Nonetheless, it is the place and the story that are of significance here.

“the cradle of civilization”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2013

You can not help but be in awe just standing someplace in the great rift valley of Tanzania, Africa. This is where the human race had its beginnings...this is a place that people from all over the world can call 'home'.

“To see the site of the 'cradle of civilization' give pause”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2013

The site had a very interesting museum with good overview of the history of exploration in the area. The 20 minute presentation with the gorge in the background was very good. A must see in Tanzania

“Where it all began”

Here is where professor Leakey and his group discovered some of the earliest human skeletons. Just being in the place where humans wandered, gathered, and possibly first hunted is exciting. It's important to hire a guide to take you down to the Leakey camp site. There enthusiasm is contagious and they put this place into the perspective of being at the beginning of human life. Also, try to get a look at the tens of thousand year old hominid footprints

“Thought it would be cheesy - but it wasn't”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

This attraction consists of a small museum that tells you about the Leakey's discoveries in this area. It is super interesting and worth a stop. The fee is about $20 per person. There was a small presentation as well overlooking the gorge that we listened to.
