“Exculcive Top Quality”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2013

The rooms are semi permanent structures with beautiful views of the valley. There is a large veranda and an outside shower as well as one in the bathroom. The decorations are outstanding. There is plenty of hot water and electricity 24h. It can be a short walk up hill and down to each unit. The bar area is also well appointed. Standard drinks are free. The food was excellent. The staff was pleasant and helpful. We were part of a photography group. We saw leopards, lions, giraffes, wildebeest, wart hogs, antilopes, etc.

Room Tip: If you are having difficulty walking, request a room close to the main area.

Dear James V 1941

Kuria Hills is a totally new concept in lodge design with most of the components and materials coming from recycled materials and all of the electricity and hot water generated from solar power. We are really happy that you enjoyed your stay here at our green camp and hope to see you back sometime.

Best regards and safe travels.

We stayed here as the final leg of a multipart safari throughout Tanzania. Having been to other bush camps, this one certainly measures up. The staff managers are attentive, the general staff are a delight, the food is fantastic, the wifi was great after a long window off the grid, and the "tent" and great room were gorgeous.

Our complaint here lies with the guiding during the game drives. It was an experience in frustration from the moment you stepped into the truck. Our guide drove at a fourth of the speed as other guides, frequently stopped to check reference books before pointing out relatively common birds, at one point confused the antelope species, and never found any of the interesting animals that we all come to see. Yes, she used her CB to get us to a cat that others had spotted, but the tenth truck clustered around a cat isn't the experience you cherish.

And despite suggesting we drive a bit faster the first afternoon, We found our guide treating our game drives like aimless Sunday morning strolls. These are territorial animals with some semi-predictable haunts and habits. Instead of attacking the land like she'd been there before, she stuck to the road at a snail's pace, and waited for a colleague to provide the intelligence. Having spent three days in the region, we felt like we could have done a better job on our own with one of us driving... not the experience you want when each day costs more than fifteen hundred dollars if you include park fees.

So in summary, a nice new facility with many strong attributes. But their guiding falls short and that's a huge issue. After all, when it really comes down to it, the fancy stuff is just window dressing.

Dear Ash5704
Thank you for your comments about your stay at Kuria Hills. I am really happy that you enjoyed the facilities, food and service. We value feedback as it helps us to identify areas in which we can improve our service delivery. As a company we strive towards our guides adhering to a strict code of guiding principles and ethics and have taken your comments on board. Not only have we had a discussion with the guide in question but we have also had lengthy discussions with all of our guides regarding the slow driving and ensuring that clients' needs are acknowledged and addressed. During the high season it is sometimes difficult not to have quite a few vehicles at a sighting, but we, together with other tour operators are encouraging our guides to try where possible, to limit the number of vehicles at sightings. We have also advised and encouraged them to communicate more openly with the guests as to their expectations so that they can better deliver exactly what the guests are looking for.
Best Regards
Mark Stroud

if you love the drama of the small inselbergs that is northern serengeti then this is for you, it truly is an incredible place with stunning views. Warm amazing Staff, great guides, proximity to the river and Wildebeest crossings. Food is sublime and perfect. amazing honeymoon retreat amongst other things. I would say for the wildlife enthusiats then this is the best, coupled with spa treatments and incredible rooms.
