“The best camp during the migration season”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2014

An excellent camp to catch the migration !
Superb setting.. excellent room
if you are luck the sighting can be right at the comfort of your room
The resident game is also very good.

However its not the ideal place if you are looking for a tented acco.

Room Tip: All are equally good !

We have an amazing time at Kirawira Serena tented camp. I & my guests went to this luxury tented camp in the western corridor of the Serengeti for our sumptuous lunch, the service was above my expectations.
The spectacular view from the lounge was amazing added something to say about the camp. will highly recommend for breakfast & lunch during day tour in the Serengeti from Mwanza.

I spent a few nights at Kirawira last May as part of a colleague's retirement trip. It was an amazing place, with great food, excellent service and a real feeling of being in the wild, with more luxuries than I could have imagined in a tented camp. As evening approached we could hear hyenas nearby, and outside our tent in the morning was a group of buffalo. Tea and Coffee were served in our tents in early morning, as the sun came up and with it all the sounds of the Serengeti.

We only spent 1 night here on our 2 week safari but everyone wished we could have stayed longer. The food was great and the staff seemed especially friendly which is saying something as all the Kenyan and Tanzanian staff tripped over themselves to serve us well. The pool was great with its little waterfall. The way the main tented lodge was set up reminded me of the way Africa was at the time "Out of Africa" was set.

Room Tip: I don't think there is a bad "tent" in the place.

A group of 6 friends visited this Lodge in October for 2 nights during a safari through Kenya and Tanzania. This was the only tented camp that we stayed in so I can’t compare the experience to other camps. The entrance to the tent is off the ground so you have to climb stairs to get to the deck which has a table and chairs to enjoy coffee and muffins in the morning if you desire. From the deck we saw elephants and giraffes which came quite close to the camp area and heard lions in the distance. The inside of the tent is quite large with a king size bed with a good fitting mosquito net, a desk, night tables and a bedside fan. The bathroom is well appointed with two sinks and a shower and toilet in separate rooms. After dark call security to escort you up to the main area, which we needed as one morning a cape buffalo stood about 5 feet from the entrance to our tent.
The main public areas are the check-in/bar tent, two dining tents and a store. There is also a pool and hot tub. The food was among the best that we had on our tour. The location of the camp is good as well as Serengeti game drives are right out of the camp entrance.
I do think that for the price that is charged, it should be all inclusive – not that we drank much, but drinks were pricey. Also, one member of our group had a birthday there and his wife asked the waiter that morning if a cake could be made. It was very nice, but there was no mention of the US $30 charge for it which we thought was excessive.

By the time we reached Kirawira we had already experienced and been impressed by a couple of tented camps but this one was the best. The reception/ lounge/bar was beautiful. hardwood floors with Persian rugs, chintz and velvet covered furniture and let's not forget the crystal chandeliers.
To cap it off a beautiful view across the Serengeti. It doesn't get much more perfect. Well the champagne on arrival was a pretty nice way to say welcome and did make it more so.

It was the sort of place which transported me back to how I imagine times might have been during colonial rule. The wind up gramophone on a side table complete with a pile of 78 records. I could almost see the ghosts of bored wives having flirtations, girls in their flapper dresses doing the Charleston and the men with their glasses of scotch or G and Ts, it was just that sort of place.

It almost goes without saying that the restaurant was equally as elegant with full silver service a very nice menu and a small but well chosen wine list.

The tents were everything I hoped for, amazing shower, fluffy towels, marble countertops and good lighting in the bathroom plus all the supplies I could possibly need.
I did have a nanosecond of panic when I noticed the panic button next to the bed and wondered about a herd of elephants crashing through the tent in the middle of the night. I decided it was best to let the thought go and be reassured by the facts that guards patrolled the grounds around the clock. As it turned out I slept like a baby and was surprised to discover that I had missed the roar of the lions in the early hours.
For a once in a life time trip, Kirawira is a place not to be missed

This is an elegant tented camp, situated overlooking the western corridor of the Serengeti. The rooms and bathrooms are beautifully appointed and very private. Service excellent. We awake in the middle of the night to hear loud crunching and munching alongside our tent. A couple of water buffalo were having a midnight snack on our doorstep! Very attentive staff and manager.
