“Amazing camp - great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2012

My husband and I stayed in Ubuntu for two nights as part of our safari trip in August.
Amazing location in Northern part of Serengeti Park, in the middle of complete wilderness made it unforgettable experience. Game drive starts straight from the entrance of the lodge and continues even on the way to the airport! Perfect location that allows you to spend 100% of safari time game driving in the park.
August was great time for migration and we were very lucky to see variety of animals including leopard, cheetah and lions among the others.
Food and accommodation were absolutely fantastic. Very comfortable and spacious tents with bathroom help you feel like in a luxury hotel among all the animals. Sunrise with the morning coffee served outside the tent was truly unforgettable!
Evening drinks by the fire and dinner in the open air luxury set up were also great.
The best and very important part about Ubuntu is its staff. They are very helpful and responsive and provide amazing service to make your stay as enjoyable as possible.
Mark and David - camp managers were always there too during breakfast, drinks and dinner time to make sure all the guests are fine and being taken care of.
Mark's insights on the local culture and exciting stories during the dinner were also very interesting and genuine.

We had great time in Ubuntu camp and also were lucky to have safari guide from their camp too, Goodluck ( name speaks for itself:-)) He was superb and made all the efforts for us to see the best of Northern Serengeti's wildlife also sharing in-depth knowledge about all the animals and their habits.

Would definitely recommend Ubuntu as a place to stay during your safari in Serengeti.
Thanks again to Mark, Goodluck and the rest of their team for an unforgettable first safari experience!

When our vehicle approached the camp, at least 6 of the staff were there to warmly greet us with a cool, refreshing towel. We were given a great overview of the features and safety measures at the camp. David was a wonderful host and manager. Our tent, bed, and bathroom was comfortable and very well maintained. We were in tent #1, furthest to the one side of the camp. Each night we saw the brave tribesmen who guarded our camp when we returned to our tent after dinner. Showers were warm with consistent, strong water pressure; staff were willing to provide additional water as needed (each person's shower was planned at 20 liters). Camp had electricity in your tent 24x7. Meals were so much better than we expected in the bush... nicely done! This camp provided 2-way radios in your tent to be able to reach a staff member who spoke wonderful English any time of the day... a feature not all camps provided. Do not hesitate to book this camp. We spent 3 nights here at the beginning of our safari in mid-Sept 2012; was the perfect amount of time. This camp is positioned well to drive to a site to view the wildebeest crossing the Mara river should you be so lucky to be there the right time of year. We simply waited 3.5 hrs one day for one brave wildebeest to lead the thousands across. What a surprise to witness this event! Also, for those of you who are pondering a Botswana vs. Serengeti experience... we traveled northern, central, and southern serengeti and on to the Ngorongoro Crater and then to Victoria Falls. We had such an amazing experience that if we had to end our trip there, we would have gone home extremely happy. Thereafter, we went on to Botswana as planned and had a great time, but the Serengeti remained our favorite.

We started of our African safari with a 2 night stay at this camp in September 2012. I am glad to say that this camp pretty much raised the bar for all other camps that were to follow. It was a brilliant stay and we wished we had stayed longer .
The key is that these guys who run the camp at site- David+Epimark and team- define service. All team members go out of their way to make your stay as comfortable as possible.
All tents are very well done and well laid out , each providing a panoramic view of the endless serengeti plains . We could hear the roar of the lions in the early mornings. Wildebeest and Zebras were in plenty , right in front of the main camp entrance. The tents are however, well guarded by the Masai tribesmen.
The beds in the tents are large and comfortable, and attention to detail in the bath area is truly commendable. Hot water for shower is provided in the overhead buckets and were filled up as many times as requested by us. Each tent is also provided with rubber boots to enable walking in rains .
We really enjoyed the campfire in the evenings and the community dinner. It provides a wonderful platform to know other guests in the camp and exchange notes on the safari.
David and Mark- you define hospitality. Right from the beginning when we arrived at the camp, we were made to feel comfortable .Staff was very polite and always eager to help. Jackson,Haaji, Godbless, and Ebinitzaa -you were truly wonderful. Anthony - your food was superb- especially desert- and something we really craved for, during the rest of our african tour.
We surely look forward to re-visit you sometime soon. And recommend you to anyone visiting Serengeti.

I recently returned from a custom Tanzania safari trip planned by Mark Thornton Safaris. The last 3 days were spent in the Serengeti where we stayed at Ubunto Camp. Words cannot express how spectacular it was to stay in their luxury tented camp with such a friendly, attentive staff. Nothing was more magnificent than hearing the lions, hyenas and zebras at night--knowing that we were very safe and secure. Also amazing was that the chef prepared wonderful meals in spite of having his kitchen in a tent!

Mark and David are awesome camp managers and I encourage every adventurer to contact Ubunto about a stay there. It was an adventure of a lifetime and the Serengeti is incredibly beautiful.

This mobile luxury camp gives new meaning to "mobile luxury!" The entire camp is spotless, clean and very easy to stay in. The entire staff is kind and eager to please. The chef prepares food that is so wonderful and healthy! I highly recommend this camp experience as the best way to be a part of the beautiful Serengeti!

Unbuntu is a mobile camp that was in the northern Serengeti in the Kogatende area when we had the pleasure of being a guest of Mark and his wonderful staff.
The camp is ideally positioned to take advantage of the Wildebeest migration crossing of the Mara River at this time of year. We were fortunate enough to see this natural phenomenon, it was quite spectacular.
From the moment we arrived our every need was taken care of by the most caring of staff whose hospitality compliments the very essence of the sense of freedom the East African wilderness offers.
The entire camp is under canvas which adds to the wilderness experience. The accommodation “tents” are extremely comfortable with all the create comforts. Awaking at day break under canvas in your comfortable bed to the sound of lions in the distance enhances the sensors and leaves one with sense of being part of the bush.
I really appreciate the thoughtfulness of the Unbuntu staff. Under the management of Mark and David, the friendly service could not be faulted. Japhet and Jackson in particular took the time to get to know everyone in our group and made sure that individual tastes were met. Thank you to the entire staff for the magnificent birthday song and dance and cake for one of our party, cooked in the canvas kitchen, it was delicious.
The attention to detail at this camp is second to none. It is highly recommended.
Thank you, Mark, David, Japhet, Jackson and all the exceptional staff for your wonderful hospitality and assisting us to awaken our senses.

Room Tip: All tents are excellent.

We recently spent a total of twelve nights in four different tented camps in the Okavango Delta, Masai Mara and Serengeti. Each was quite superb in all ways but each provided a different experience. Ubuntu, as the only non-permanent camp was a most pleasant surprise, being much more comfortable and established than we expected. Other reviewers have described the wonderful level of attention, comfort and service .... exactly as we experienced. What seemed to set Ubuntu somewhat apart for us, was an extra level of friendliness, warmth and caring that each staff member seemed to have for all guests, right from the top. Mark was always there, beaming with friendship. Japhet was always hovering around knowing exactly what to serve next. Goodluck, about to become a father, was our most enjoyable guide.
