“Good Jump Off for Kili”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2013

Just outside Moshi town this is a slightly upscale newly built backpackers lodge. Good for a few days before and after Kili which is what its meant for so don't plan a long stay. Its ownded by Ahsante tours so if you book Kili with them they will put you here for a slightly reduced rate ($90/night single $110 double at time of writing). Rooms are clean, beds are nice, no TV but has mini fridge in room. Only room gripe is that the hot water tanks are far too small so you must turn the shower on and off to have enough to finish a shower with warm water. We had a big group though and some said theirs lasted just fine so seems luck of the draw. Batteries were often missing from A/C remotes but you can get these at the front desk. They seem to be a bit of a commodity in the area as I was asked for extras many times while on our trek up Kili so I think this is why they disappear from the rooms. Pool was a bit bug ridden although they supposedly cleaned it daily and the restaurant has a decent menu but stay away from the pizza and go for the samosas or rice w/eggplant or chicken instead. Oh and make sure you order early cuz unless its the buffet food will take at least 30 minutes from time of ordering.

We had a wonderfully relaxing Christmas Day staying at this hotel. The rooms are extremely comfortable, with air conditioning and a separate bathroom - it all feels very brand new. They are well designed and spacious - very welcome after a long transit, a mountain climb or rough safari roads. The lodge is very child friendly - our 2 year old much enjoyed following the lodge's tortoise around! The managers and staff are attentive and welcoming, and we enjoyed great meals. Relaxing around the pool and enjoying a Christmas day swim are fantastic memories for us. The area around the hotel is perfect for a walk or cycling - close to a coffee plantation with lots of mature trees. Around the bar there is a good mix of tourists and locals, so it provides a bit more than 'faceless' lodges that we have seen elsewhere, and at the same time the lodge is of international standard. We would certainly recommend this to anyone seeking a lodge with a bit more to offer.

Room Tip: Ask for an upstairs room.

Rooms are confortable, clean and with western standards. The surroundings are also nice with swimming pool, open common area with bar to relax and very nice service and staff. Security is also high in the lodge. Location is about 10-15 minutes from Moshi on a secondary road next to the main road. It was a transit hotel included in my booked tour to climb Kilimanjaro so I stayed the pre and post night of the climbing there and everything was perfect, from accommodation, to restaurant, bar, breakfast and room. The lodge might be a little expensive or too far away considering other options (around the area) or if your stay is not part of a tour that includes transport. But if you decide for this place you will not regret it as accommodation and standards are really good and local people celebrate weddings and important events in the area too.

I really like Weru Weru. It's open air bar is a great place to relax and sit with friends in the evening. Rooms are not particularly fancy but they are clean, comfortable and more than adequate. I found the staff to be helpful, polite and quick to respond. I thought the rustic vibe was perfect for a lodge sitting at the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro.

A group of around 50 of us stayed here for one night after a 550km cycle and a week rough camping so as other reviewers have said, it was disappointing not to have hot water and also there is no hair dryer in the whole hotel! Only a little thing but it would have been so nice. They set tables outside for us for dinner but we had to abandon them as it was so windy. Not sure why, but the food whilst nice was disappointingly lukewarm at best. At breakfast we struggled to get cups, glasses for juice and had long waits for coffee and food.
Our room was ok however something was leaking in the bathroom so the floor was constantly wet.

Have just retruned from an unexspectedly long stay at this hotel, its is basically a transit hotel where you would stay a night Pre and Post either a safari or trek up Kilimanjaro.
The rooms are nice and spacious, clean and tidy, with twin beds or pushed together to make a double......... there are 8 blocks of 4 rooms built in an arch surrounding a small pool. There is a nice bar area with a number of seating area`a and a resturant, which does some nice food. The staff are all very helpful and friendly.

All in all a very pleasent place to stay for a short time.

Stayed here on 3 occassions for a single night each time inbetween climbing Kili and the safari start and finish. Each time was a different room, but the layout was the same, they were all clean, quite spacious and comfortable Only complaint was the lack of sufficient hot water - after a week of no water on the mountain it would have been nice to enjoy a hot shower which lasted enough to wash long hair properly. There is hot water, but your showers need to be fairly quick, or else you can adjust the water pressure to minimum which makes the water last longer, but obviously compromises the pressure totally.

The whole hotel was overtaken by a wedding the night we stayed before climbing Kili the next morning, which wasn't ideal for rest before the climb as the party went on until after midnight. On the other hand we got to see a local wedding, so we weren't too perturbed, but if this would bother you then be sure to ask when booking whether there is any funciton planned for the night you want to stay.

The food and drinks at the hotel were quite good and reasonably priced and staff very cordial and attentive.

Be aware that the hotel is a bit far from Moshi town so you are restricted to the drivers or taxis to get you there and back (be sure to agree the price with the taxi driver before you get in as they see $$ signs as soon as you come near...).

Overall a great rest stop inbetween our trips and would recommend.
