When we need to be in Dar es Salaam we always stay on Kigamboni Island, a short ferry ride from the city, nice beach, nice breeze, away from traffic, but close enough to Dar city for business. Our favourite place here is Kipepeo, a very relaxed beach banda hotel. We find it romantic and atmospheric. We feel good here. The hotel consists of various types of local style huts and chalets ranging from very cheap to mid-range. We love the cheap small palm-leaf bandas on the beach (shared bathroom - but we are generally here on weekdays when it's not so busy) and the garden chalets with a fancy bathroom and a fantastic loft bedroom with seaview and lovely breeze. The bar/restaurant is a local style pavilion. The food is good and of a good price. Reliable wifi and some seats with sockets. No gym or pool, but for the price I would not expect that. Friendly staff although frequently forgetful - but that is not exactly an exception in Africa.
