“needs some care”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2011

Stayed there on business in October. Large comfortable room. Left my saving kit at home. They had no disposable razors. I thought all hotels kept that sort of thing. Breakfast was cold because the kitchen staff had "run out of fuel". Dinner certainly not memorable. There are better hotels in Dar-es-Salaam at US$156 per night.

The hotel is well located and highly functional - good showers, big TVs, large beds, pretty good internet (which is now an open wireless system, whereas before you had to type in tedious log-in codes). It lacks any real charm but it does the job. You really need your own transport to get out and enjoy meals in the many restaurants on the peninsula, as the in-house restaurant is limited and the menu not impressive. My only gripes are (a) the rather dull breakfast selection with signing of little chitties afterwards (what's the point of that?), and (b) the very high price of laundry, which is out-sourced and rather costly. But I've stayed here many times and the reception staff are always friendly and, as I say, it delivers what you need in terms of functionality.

This hotel is located outside the city centre of Dar es Salaam. Although there are two main streets nearby (Ali Hassan Mwinyi Road and Haile Selassie Road) the whole plot is very quiet and it is a nice and well-kept place as well.

We had one of the suites with a separate bedroom, a balcony and a kitchenette which contained everything you need to prepare some food by yourself. The suite was very spacious, clean and quite cozy. Staying here means living in Dar es Salaam and not only sleeping in a hotel.

The breakfast buffet is o.k. I would call it average for hotels of this category, nothing to complain about, but nothing to be called extraordinary as well. In the evening the restaurant offers quite good food and drinks in a nice atmosphere. It is worth a visit anyway.

The whole staff was friendly, helpful and competent.

But comfort has its price. When you look at the location the prices for accommodation are pretty high, in spite of the available space in the rooms and in spite of all other positive things to be mentioned. This concerns especially single travelers as the rates for single rooms are almost as high as those for double rooms. However we had a very pleasant stay and that is why we can recommend this hotel all in all.

If you just want somewhere to sleep this hotel could work. It looks quite messy with different kind of furniture thrown together in a haste and old bathrooms. The breakfast buffet was unimpressive too. I guess there are a lot of places of similar quality a much lower price in Dar.

For USD 140.00 per night, it was too pricey. If you can afford, 140, you can definitely afford 200. Just go to a 5 star hotel instead of this one.

Rooms are spacious and clean. However, staff members are extremely unfriendly, their restaurant does not have many options and most of the food is extremely spicy. They take cards and exchange money, but they have ridiculous rules such as not accepting US$ bills printed prior to 1999!!! Also be prepared to shower with cold water some days! and the gym does not have a/c or windows and it gets really stuffy.

This place is well located on the corner of Haile Selassie Road and Ali Hassan Mwinyi Road. We had a two-bedroom apartment, with a kitchenette and a small living room. The place is well maintained, the service was good and the price reasonable and they accept credit cards. This is a place I would certainly recommend to friends as it has the same level of service as the top-end hotels, but at a more reasonable price.
