“Bad food but the nice view”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2012

I was there on business for a week. My room was satisfactory in regards to cleanliness and the view was great. The food was subpar. It was difficult to find time to go anywhere else for breakfast so I ate at the hotel most mornings. I did not care for the quality and I’m not a picky eater. Other than that, it was a reasonable week stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony!

this is my second stay in Dar Es Salaam. i am a seasoned traveller and travel at least 2 weeks a month.
i was pleasantly suprised with the Coral beach. the rooms are of a good size and very comfortable with a nice sea view. beds are really comfortable and not hard as rocks!
i found most of the staff to be helpful and friendly.
the food from the cafe on site was great and although i never ate at the cafe but rather opted for room service, i was over joyed to see how fast the service was. Siven is doing a wonderful job to turn around the kitchen. the food is also VERY tasty and I found myself enjoying the HUGE fish basket even though i am not a fish person. :)
my only thing was that there could be just a little more variety at breakfast, and the rooms needs to be serviced a little better. one should not have to ask them to replenish the mini bar or bathroom items.
but all in all, i think this is a great hotel and restaurant with awesome potential :) i would definitely stay here again.

I stayed 2 nights here on a recent trip to Tanzania. The hotel arranges airport transfer if needed and there was a very warm welcome when I got to the reception. The standard room was comfortable with everything you would expect.
There is a bar and outdoor restaurant overlooking the ocean. I didn't get to enjoy the pool or use the gym but good to know that the facilities are there.

As our company has a office in Dar Es Salaam, I stay at the Coral Beach Hotel often.

I must say that I am really impressed with the upgrades that are being done to the hotel and the rooms in the new wing are really nice and comfortable. Although I do think that they can put things like shower caps, ear buds and other essentials in the bathroom.

The staff are really super friendly and always willing to assist. Arthur at the front desk is always so friendly with a huge smile on his face as the guest arrive, making one feel like to have just arrived home.

Ravindra, the Restaurant Manager, always make a point of coming to the guest and checking if they are happy with the meals. The menu has changed over the last few months and there is a nicer variety on the new menu. The food is getting better and better as they now have a South African chef in the kitchen.

Although, they upgrading the hotel, I have not felt inconvenienced at all during my stay at Coral Beach and I stay often at least two weeks every two months.

Thank you for making stay a pleasant one.

I wasn't sure what to expect as i have never stayed in a Best Western Hotel before and i have to say i was disappointed.
I had just been in 9hr flight, i came in 4am and the 1st thing i asked for was a room above the ground floor....i was given a room in the basement floor!! I was too tired to argue that i went to sleep and woke up to view of the basement reinforcement wall. Long story short i changed rooms twice before i simply gave up.
I also gave up on the food after the 1st day and started eating out.
I had to call reception all the time to ask for things that should come with the room eg shower cap, bath gel/soap...it was so frustrating.
The staff were polite though.

Room Tip: There are two wings, ask for a room in the 'other' wing. The rooms in the same building as t...

I've stayed at a number of hotels in Dar es Salaam, and the Coral Beach Best Western has been by far the best in terms of personalised service. My colleagues and I had a training workshop at the hotel for a week and a half in Feb 2012, and we had rooms at the hotel as well, and the staff were fantastic. They helped with every request we had, and we were free to concentrate on our work because everything was in place and taken care of (tea breaks were on time, our conference room was always in good order and equipment was in place, etc.). The room we had was air conditioned and well-lit, with lots of outlets for computers, etc.

The food was also excellent - the buffet was always ready when we needed it, with lots of good choice, and vegetarianism was happily accommodated. The rooms in the new part of the building are lovely, and the internet service, which is included in the price, worked very well. The gardens and outside eating area is beautiful. Some people have commented on here that the beach is not really a beach for swimming, which is true, but there is a swimming pool, and just having our evening meal outside next to the Indian ocean was enough for us. It wasn't buggy either, even though it's so close to the water. And the hotel is close to a clinic, a lovely restaurant wtihin walking distance (Epid'or) and lots of other amenities (Slipway, with banks/ATMs, restaurants, shopping, book store, etc., is a 5 minute drive away). We will definitely stay here again.

My one suggestion would be to improve the business centre - there is only one computer and the printer didn't work very well, The office staff were great and helped me with printing and copies when I needed it, but a better business centre would definitely help attract more business customers.

Again, in my experience, the service was great. Hotel staff in Tanzania are always lovely, but at Coral Beach, they really went the extra mile to make sure we were happy. The English language abilities of the staff there are also excellent, which made commuication a non-issue, which is nice when you are there for business and often pressed for time!

Room Tip: Definitely ask for a room in the new part of the building.

When booking, we upgraded to a de luxe room for a very small difference - there are some rather worrying looking rooms which can only be described as beign undeground as they appear very dark and dingy. Room was great and well worth the upgrade, dinner on the terrace overlooking the sea was very pleasant, but breakfasts were rather boring

Hotels in Dar are expensive and this turned out to be the best deal we could find and we were very happy with it. There is no beach but there is plenty to make up for it with a nice pool, attentive staff and adjacent tot he hotel is the Dar yacht club which has a lovely beach if that is critical.
